Graith Internet have developed a Level 2 integration of Google Checkout for OSCommerce - the first in the world. You can buy it now...

It's written and tested for OSC MS2, but versions will be available shortly for Zen Cart and OSC CRE Loaded 6.15 and 6.20
Quote
Level 2 Integration adds communication between OSC and Google Checkout. It records the order and records the purchase as a Google checkout payment with the GC payment ID. In the administration, you can charge the credit card and you can notify your customer that the order has shipped and it will pass on the information to Google without using the Google Control panel. If the credit card payment was declined, the payment status will reflect this.

This code will look for the email address in members details and automatically make them a member if it's not found. This means that Vouchers will work.

Anyone else's using Google checkout?
No Modules or API.

I'm getting some orders with some using it now,
as it's now integrated with Mals so I put it in as an option
to see how it will work out.

Not sure I like it at all.

Downside:
Three sets of processes to follow.
1. Review order    2. Charge the customer    3. Ship and confirm the order

No email supplied of my customer to me?

So no personal contact with my customer from me.

OH NO....

I follow up with my customers and control the e emails.
Let them know what's going on, shipping time frames and such.
Not have some company send out canned emails I can't customize.
This is all part of good CS as far as I'm concerned.

Not impress at all so far.

So I removed it as an option until I can get set up with my own API
or I may just say no thanks.

Wonder why all the secrecy?
I mean, my god... I can't have access to my own buyers e mail address
and send them MY payment notifications and shipping alerts?

Rumors on another forum (it was either on osC or Zen) are that some people with php5 have had some difficulties with this.

I understand independent developers needing to make a
buck to develop these mods.

But Google itself is out of their minds IMO,
if they didn't already have an integration mod
all set to roll out on opening day or their own cart (like pp does)
so that merchants could easily integrate GP with their site.

You know if you open a snack bar or some little restaurant
and Pepsi wants to get your business...

Chances are you can get free use of a fountain machine or gun set up
(the tools to sell their products and the service to boot)
just because you are going to buy their
products (making them money) i.e. syrups boxes, carbonated H2O tanks,
purchasing cups from them and what not.

I really don't understand why Google expects everyone to jump through
their hoops just to use their payment service so they can make a buck.

I held out making comments about the service prior to actually trying it out myself.

I gotta say.  So far I'm not impressed.

A few quick downsides I've already seen just using the " Button" option
is that my cart provider Mal's had to develop the code and place it in our carts
ON THE FIRST PAGE and prior to our customers being able
to see the "other" online payment options we offer.  :blinkie:

To me that smells of a policy Google has implemented in order
to try and HIDE our other payment options.  :nono:

Not Cool

Another down side to the standard payment option
is your customers have the ability to HIDE their e mail address from you.

What? My customers and I can communicate DIRECT?
Or they are given the option NOT to allow us to communicate with them? ::)

Not cool either

Another issue I've seen is the time frame in which Google takes to process your
payments and deposit them into your attached bank account.

5 -7 DAYS AFTER the payment was accepted by the merchant?

Again not too cool

Looks like us little guys are better off with the plans and MA's we already have.

I for one WILL not go through there hoops just so they can make a buck.

You want my business you make it easier to operate... NOT harder.

IMO they are already showing signs of being PP II... but worst.

End of rant.

I think so.  The buyers never leave my sites with my merchant account--with PP and GCheckout they're taken to another company's site and have to click a link to return to my sites.

Yea that too Amy, not to mention... how can you even try to upsell
if PP or Goggle are taking your customers AWAY from you?

I do have PP Google, CSI and Mals all set up to go to certain pages after the sale.
But your right. .. The customer has to click on the link to go there.
They are not auto redirected. (As far as I know)

I really wanted to use Zen too basically just for what you just said Amy
keeping them at the site or seeming like they are,
and to be able to rotate add on products during check out... (suggestive selling)
But just found out yesterday that to use Zen my customer HAS to create an account.

Now with Google that is true too and w PP they don't have to and with
CSI they don't create an account at all.

Still I have no real data to support this, but I feel that having to "sign up" and make an online account, just to buy something may be a deterrent to those concerned about third parties (especially small merchants) having access to that sensitive cc info.

I mean I wont go to Bob's used books and buy a book if Bob's bot insist
I create an account for a 5.00 purchase.

Just not realistic to me.

Now on the other hand I do see how it can be beneficial for larger sites
with repeat customers and a BRAND name. Like Musician's Friend or Tiger Direct for example.

I created accounts w them because they appear to have the infrastructure in place to protect my personal data and I do buy from them regularly.

But Bob's used books or even my site. I just don't think peeps want to go through the hassle and worry. I'm not really a repeat type biz anyway.

Once Sally has the rack she wants. She's not coming back to buy another one.
(Her friend might though)..
The one she has will last for years.
Now I do have a couple of wholesale buyers and have had
a few customers who moved and decided to leave their old rack
at the old location and buy another... but that is far and between.

There has got to be  simple script or program out there I can use
to just redirect my peeps to CSI with out having to have a full blow inventory management type cart system that is way more than what I need.

Actully I have found a script but early testing showed it wasn't working.
(This was about the same time of your upgrades too... so many I should try it again.)

You got me thinking again about activating the oscmax "Linkpoint Credit Card" mod.
But even w the oscmax "Linkpoint Credit Card" mod available now
(we may have covered this before)...

I just want to clarify a few things.

1) Do I STILL need to get an SSL cert or is there a way to pass the customer on to
the LinkPoint Gateway PRIOR to them giving the sensitive cc info at MY site's cart?

I ask because if I understand correctly, the customer is placing ALL
the sensitive CC data in MY site's cart the way the mod is set up in oscmax now...right?
(Then ALL the cc data is sent via a SSL packet to LinkPoint correct?)

Also I ask because I'm set up to use LinlPoint Connect NOT LinkPoint's API.

This has me a bit confused as to how to set it up.
As it stands now using Mals cart I have to go to two separate sites to complete the process.

First I get an e mail from LP saying I have an authorization.
(This e mail does NOT have the order info (what the buyer ordered),
Mals has the order info (what the buyer ordered) and LP has the cc data, ship address, avs codes etc.. (and is where I must go
to approve the "authorization" and move the funds to my account).

I'll do a little more research on this but I bet I can pick up the phone and
get someone at CSI or LP to walk me through it.

I'm looking at ways to stream line the process before the rush If possible
because now I have a feeling I'm going to get buried and anything
that is going to shave processing time is going to free me up to fill and ship the orders.

Side note: Stupid me after all these years,
just figured out how to upload my customers addresses
to my USPS account via CSV file. Before I was copying and pasting each line in a label
at the time I wanted to make a label.
So yea xppman is NOT the brightest bulb on the Xmas tree after all.  ::)

Suggestions about the ways to use the cart to save time
and how you guys handle it would be great. Even if in an IM if appropriate.

You'd need an SSL certificate and you'd have to add a dedicated IP address. The LinkPoint mod is API only.
