OK, when I referred to the owner of BidWhale as "innocent" before I was trying to be nice and avoid using the words that fit him best: ignorant, stupid, braindead....you get the idea.

Not always. This beta version of SMF has a few bugs and it sometimes needs a push (by having it recount all totals) to get the "last reply" to appear...especially if the last reply was in a subcategory.
I'll see if we can do something about the lack of smilies.
