From Zoovy:

Quote:AOL has invited Zoovy members to participate in the launch of it's next generation e-commerce marketplace. You can visit the current AOL classifieds at http://classifieds.aol.com/.

While the listing and sell through statistics for this marketplace are not yet known; AOL subscribers currently represent an approximately 50% of the Internet e-commerce transactions which occur worldwide every year. It goes without saying that the long term impact of this marketplace will absolutely have an effect on every sellers bottom line.

Its also worth mentioning that during the intial launch period Zoovy merchants are the only sellers which are allowed to participate.

also from Zoovy:

Quote:Paypal:
AOL is a competitor to eBay, and Paypal is owned by eBay. As such AOL asked us to remove Paypal as a payment method for any transaction that includes an AOL item in it. So the "Paypal" payment option will not appear whenever an AOL buyer is going through your checkout the Paypal option will not appear. Please make sure you update your messaging accordingly.

According to AOL, the majority of AOL members don't use Paypal anyway - which we tend to agree with - so this probably isn't a big deal.

To list from Zoovy you need: A. to have been a Zoovy member for 90 days (eliminates this Zoovy trial member Wink )  B. "demonstrated an aggregate sales volume of $15,000 in sales within the past 90 days." C. have a merchant account and D.-Z. a bunch of other conditions.
Do I have to be an AOL member to buy something?
You don't need to subscribe to AOL to buy.  You do however have to signup for a free AOL Classifieds screen name if you want to buy or contact the seller.

Sellers have to either be AOL members or listing through the Zoovy test program.

I haven't used AOL for about 10 years so this is probably a stupid question - are "AOL members" people who use them as an ISP or can anyone sign up to be a "member"?
I think AOL members are people who use them as an ISP.
Ok.  I was thinking I heard something about them offering their "stuff" to non-AOL ISP subscribers but that could have been something/someone else.
They have an option where if you already have a broadband connection, then you can use all their other services for $14.95/month

It comes with 10 hours of dialup access - we use the AOL for when I'm out of town and using the laptop - we have broadband at the house, and I generally don't touch it at home.  But, if their classified service is hopping, I may have to sign in and go take a looksie.

AOHell just annoys me.  But, sometimes they serve a purpose - like trying to reach buyers who use AOL mail and don't get notices because of their poorly adjusted filters.  Plus, if you travel alot, their dialup numbers are pretty durn comprehensive across the country.  I can't wait until Verizon has better coverage on their WiFi cards though - cause the minute that happens we're dropping the AOLoser.
Hmmm, interesting . . . even though I use my own connection, the IP address changes every time I sign in with AOL and use their browser.  I just signed in, signed out, signed in, signed out . . . five different IP addresses in a row.
AOL Classifieds stopped accepting personal classifieds listings effective December 1st, 2005.
