Quote:A new Boston website aims to bring order to the tens of millions of weblogs proliferating online and provide one-stop shopping for overwhelmed Internet surfers. In the process, it could put some cash in the pockets of Internet scribes pecking away in obscurity.

The site, Gather.com, positions itself as a kind of eBay for online writers and their readers -- a gathering spot for musings and discussions on everything from wine and computers to fitness and spirituality. And, with a business model that could shake up the writing profession, executives from Gather Inc. are recruiting bloggers by offering them a share of the company's advertising revenue.

Eventually, popular writers will be able to earn a living by posting their work and attracting eyeballs to advertisements...

BW has an article on Gather.com:

Quote:The year-old site is trying to create an online space for the NPR crowd. But do they have time—amid kids and careers—to hang out online?...

Gather.com. Look at the site's front page and you'll see middle-America feel-good topics such as "craft ideas for the weekend," but also weightier topics like state-by-state discussions about whether the Democrats can win back Congress. Then there are chat rooms that range from spirituality to food and wine...

...he conundrum facing Gather: Do grownups really want a place to hang online?

The 35-and-over demographic may be increasingly Web savvy, but between careers, kids, spouses, and aging parents, most don't have time to lurk online the way teens and young adults do. When they're online, they'd rather focus on something specific, like careers, kids, or even knitting or dogs. As they get older, they spend more time on sites focused on such matters as health and aging...

Hmmm MySpace for the older guys and gals. OK

I tried the other MySpace...  FREAKS I tell you FREAKS.  :blinkie:
At least most the one's in my demographic / area.

Worn out crack hoes, cheating wives and the 40 something sexually / mentally abused
types who never really found a good man so they don't THINK we exsist.  :Smile

I deleted my MySpace with-in two weeks of starting one.  ;D
Xpp,
My opinion is... MySpace is NOT the place to be looking for love.

Everyone knows that TT is the place to look for love.  :-*
You got that right Anita.
Besides, I'm holding out for my Avatar girl.

As soon as I put in my profile stuff like:
single dad, honest, loving caring, not into games, drama, bla bla bla...
All the FREAK players and psychos came out of the wood work.  :blinkie: :blinkie:

The net is full of psychos but I still know good people
post on forums and other places too.  Thumbsup

You just got to watch out for the signs of the needy, the ready to jump in the
virtual sack at click of the mouse and the one's who NEVER
want to show a current pic or only show one that never even shows thier face.
I think you can tell a lot from peoples eyes you know.

I did meet a girl online a couple of years ago.
She lives like 5 mins. away and we are good friends.
That's all... friends... and I know she's got my back and I've got hers.

Another single parent. She has a boyfriend but you
can't get him to help her with anything.

Case in point.

Yesterday she called and asked if I would
help here move some stuff out
of storage to her brand new house.
I helped but couldn't help but notice her BF never showed up to help.
I didn't say a word about his absence.
I went and got two loads in my truck, took them to her house,
congratulated her on the new place, gave her a quick hug and went on home.

You really know who your TRUE friends are on moving day.  :Smile
