Quote:Edgeio, a Web 2.0 answer to Craigslist?

... co-founder Michael Arrington...called the company a search engine for classifieds on blogs...

Let's say you post a classifed ad on your blog. You tag it with the word "listing," and Edgeio will spot it and add it to its database. You add more tags (e.g., "San Francisco" and "couch") and these give your post/ad a way of appearing in the appropriate category within Edgeio.

In fact, you can post a classified ad pretty much anywhere. There just needs to be an RSS feed or something for Edgeio to track it. Your ad then gets picked up in a centralized marketplace. You post it, then you're done.

Quote:...I was given a personal tour of Edgeio, the startup founded by TechCrunch Mike and Keith Teare. ...my tour led by Matt Kaufman, Edgeio product manager, and Vidar Hokstad, director of engineering–of the beta site left me with the impression that they have come up with a simple and elegant twist on the listings/classified business. The service aggregates listings from RSS-based Web pages–post listings on your blog and Edgeio indexes and organizes them on its site.

Edgeio doesn't plan to participate in transactions, Kaufman said, and will generate revenue via contextual ads, listing enhancement (bolding) fees and paid placement (a publisher/lister pays 25 cents to stay at the top of the heap) and auctions in the future as the service ramps up the number of listings.

Quote:From a buyer’s perspective, find the listings and email the person concerned through the Edgeio system. You can search by geographic locations (very cool slider!!!) and by using tags. One of the best features, which I like about the service is that it can give you a small piece of code that you can then re-embed in your site’s sidebar to give people and easy view of what you are selling. I wish this could be turned into a plugin for more popular blog systems...

Did you just publishing something on an RSS or ATOM enabled website that you would like listed on edgeio? Give us the URL of your website, we'll fetch the most recent items, and then you can choose what to list on edgeio. Once items are listed on edgeio, you can enhance them by adding new tags, setting the price, specifying the location, etc.
