Sorry, but you did not exactly come across as friendly. More like you were challenging us. Not a very auspicious beginning.
Quote:Maybe the way I posted it made it sound like I was justifying spam.
Yes, it did. Very much so, in fact.

Sneaky I am soooo disappointed in you! You're such an idiot! Why why why did you choose uBid over Wagglepop? For a low monthly participation fee of $9.95 you could have had your items exposed to WP's huge 6000 strong membership...but nooooooo, what do you do, you go and list somewhere with a participation fee of $0 and 5.5 million members most of whom are buyers. What an idiot! :twistedevil:
Quote:Thirdly, at $9.95 per month with free unlimited listings, you should realize at that price that there will be precious little left monthly for conventional advertising for quite a while, and maybe always, depending on participation levels.
How nice. We may never advertise but please continue to pay us an FVF on all sales for providing you with absolutely nothing.Â

I figured I better say that since I'll probably mess up my wording. From what I can tell, the ad campaign is ON and is taking this form: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viral_marketing Some people may not like it, but it's what was used before, and it worked.
As an example, one of the nastiest forums in existance (the Ro$$how) has started insulting wp up and down, using lots of wp keywords. So why would the owner of that forum do that? Controversy. It gets page views for him, and he thinks it harms wp, but it doesn't.
I know it all sounds weird, and most of this probably isn't "planned" by wp, but let's put it this way ... HighBidder wiped out their entire database today. You'd think that news like that would be stronger than anything relating to wp, but it doesn't seem to be. Wagglepop has some sort of intrigue factor - both good and bad, but "press is press."

Sounds pretty pro WP spam/viral marketing. :blinkie:
No, Belle, you missed Vital's point. During the WP-1 days, there were tons of 'bad press', and ridicule, and just plain discussion on various forums -- OTHER than obvious spamming/promotion by wp-1 poopers on the ebay stores board. The presence of all those links back to wp, constantly being viewed, made the forum became a hugely hot spot in the eyes of search engines. No spamming involved here, just hot discussion resulting in numerous backlinking and page views, which is a big SEO positive.

Am I the only one who screams everytime I see this??
THEY ARE NOT FREE LISTINGS IF THEY COST MONEY!!! For chrissakes.
There is a monthly [b]FEE[b]. You can't pay with beans or M&Ms. It costs MONEY.
