Chiquita and Sweet,
I've been over at OTWA reading up on history. I scanned through the first time and now doing it in bits. For a thread long closed, there are 14 lurkers on it at this moment!! Keep resurrecting the history. Some are obviously curious enough to look for themselves...
Edited because I have the acronym wrong...silly fingers!

Walkin' 'Round in Women's Underwear
(Parody of Walking in a Winter Wonderland)
Lacy things the wife is missin'
Didn't ask for her permission
I'm wearing her clothes
Her silk pantyhose
Walkin' 'round in women's underwear
In the store there's a teddy
With little straps like spaghetti
It holds me so tight
Like handcuffs at night
Walkin' 'round in women's underwear
In the office there's a guy named Melvin
He pretends that I am Murphy Brown
He'll say "Are you ready?" we'll say "Whoa, man!
Let's wait until the wife is out of town"
Later on if you wanna
We can dress like Madonna
Put on some eye shade
And join the parade
Walkin' 'round in women's underwear
Lacy things...missin'
Didn't ask...permission
Wearing her clothes...Silk pantyhose
Walkin' 'round in women's underwear
Walkin' 'round in women's underwear
Walkin' 'round in women's underwear

If you want to listen to that song and others go to this page, they are hilarious. My personal favorites are Boys Nite out for Weiners and Inflatible Woman

Thanks, iron_chick.
About the whole Wagglepop thing.
My first reaction was: "....."
My second reaction was and is:
He deleted the databases and sensitive information
He did not delete the databases and sensitive information.
He said he programmed the software from scratch.
He did not program the software from scratch.
He said Wagglepop was gone forever.
He said Wagglepop is not gone forever.
... you get the idea. And the pattern.
Simply amazing.

An early first reaction that was right on the mark!
let the truth be told

X-POP NATION, A real seller's network
Sweet, thanks for the link. At one time I had that site bookmarked, but when my hard drive crashed awhile back, I lost all my bookmarks (and a lot more).
The current WP forum is censored, and posts are deleted based on arbitrary rules set forth by Ray. The majority of these posts were neither in violation of Ray's own forum rules but were deliberately removed because the individuals who are paying customers had business questions that had gone unanswered.
Flashback to the forum on FAS prior to pre-launch of WP1 here is a post from Ray regarding deletion of posts.
Quote:I'd like to address the general question of why topics get locked or deleted.....
Because I think it's wrongminded thinking to imply that a public discussion board, one of the 'loosest' means of general interaction ever invented, is viewed as some sort of carefully published archival system.
Much like a conversation between peers, there should be some semblance of both leeway and understanding, as 'conversation', by it's very definition, is merely an opportunity to toss around ideas and thoughts......and that should not have the same permanency attached to it as, say, publishing an article or paper, where each word is measured, reviewed, and edited before publication.
If we say we want to speak freely, let's do it. But if conversation turns to manifesto, well, to me, that's just not correct thinking.
Intention is pretty easy to spot.
For all of us, if we ask a question with respect, we should get a respectful answer in return.
Ask a question lacking that, and the exchange of ideas stops. It becomes a battle of wills, a clash of platforms, and generally defeats the entire purpose of debate.
For that reason, threads are locked or deleted.
This is no "public record", no official report, no declaration of independace....
It's a message board, for conversation.
Nothing more, nothing less.
With common courtesy and respect, we can use it to brainstorm, laugh, cry....whatever.....
Without it, it's just another playground full of bullies.
Ray
Here is a follow-up commentary on OTWA:
Quote:I respectfully disagreed, because IMHO - a chat board is different by virtue or words being typed instead of spoken.
I also strongly feel anytime a new venture asks for trust and faith in this day and age, it oughta rejoice over researchable resources ... not delete them.
Another excellent commentary regarding the WP board
Quote:Our eBay sellers group got along famously, with respect, and dissention, and differing views, unlike the broadly brushed FAS view of "oh, they must be from an eBay forum". We accomplished the decorum by setting a level of expectation, not stifling speech, but rather directing the way it was communicated to include respect. And on the rare occasion when someone gave us instructions on how to deal with an intestinal obstruction, they got suspended or banned.
My FAS post was an innocent query although I asked a tough question and at the same time tried to be civil and upbeat for the Popper. It is a shame that it isn't obvious to some supporters that issues for some people aren't necessarily bogus just because they don't affect the poster. That alone is a reason why there are so many venue sites and none able to garner a majority. Generally, it is a disservice to the community to stifle speech of those who disagree by shouting them down or berating them. It is also a disservice to blindly promote while ignoring issues.
What I see going on in the FAS WP forum is ganking of tough questions, and dissenters, and naysayers, and ignoring many others. Mine got lumped into the batch and the thread locked without reply. I wasn't dissenting. I was asking a tough question about spamming and security, within the heated exchange posts thread.
Commentary from archived post on OTWA (please note the identical situation, questions, and outcome happening at WP2 today)
Quote:Actually, I think there were some who were completely *indifferent* to the site. (Like me) Asking questions doesn't mean one is suspicious. It means one is curious and possibly interested. It's the responses from Ray that are making me not quite suspicious, but definitely wary. I guess my expectations from the *owner* of a company are high. I don't expect them to belittle potential customers. (sellers) I don't expect the moderators to slam any users. I want facts and not the feel good rhetoric that I'm seeing spewed on the board.
I was around for the Gegy Fiasco which had the same type of emotional response. It was right after eBay did something to piss off a lot of sellers. The great new auction site...built by an eBay seller. Gegy stroked our egos too. But back then, I do believe it was waycoolman who was asking the hard privacy and user agreement questions. (Is Gabriel WCM?) Turns out the new site was built on "misleading" responses by the owner...including his work history, his new employees, his "spamming" of boards, his email harvesting...so if some of the folks come off a little skeptical...this is like deva vu.
Plus...we should be able to ask hard questions. Buyer beware and all that. And the sellers are the "buyers" for Ray. We'll be buying his product. I'm finding some of Ray's responses are like Paypal Damons. Nice guy but he'd answer your question with about 3 paragraphs and you still didn't know what he meant. I'm also finding some of Ray's responses extremely condescending to the non-cheerleaders. Perhaps he needs someone a little more customer service oriented to answer these questions because for every person posting...there's a lot more lurking. And lurkers belong to other boards, groups, chat rooms, collector groups, etc. So he's not just alienating a few...
These are my issues (and I'm not in the mood to be slapped over on the WP boards, LOL).
1. Is there a beta test? If not, why not? What happens on Day 1? If there's site issues, I'm not sure how many buyers would hang around.
2. User Agreement and Privacy Policy...ready or not? It concerns me greatly that the owner is just "poo-poo'ing" the concerns about the email addresses.
3. Buyers...how will he drive them to the site? Unless it's gonna be the sellers buying off each other for a while. (Bidbay anyone?)
4. Not interested in giving my credit card info to be a buyer. Not interested in giving my CC info to someone who has fibbed (even if it's a smidgen) about his background and has no concern about email harvesting.
5. I'm concerned about the owner and moderators making derogatory comments about other sites and users.
6. The launch is 16-18 days. What exactly needs to be done to get this site operational?
7. I'm also a little concerned that Ray's motivation ISN"T money. It's that "feel good" crap again. I mean...it makes me feel good when one of my buyers finds something that they've been looking for...but I ain't in it for that, LOL. I'm in it to make money.
On the plus side...I do like the name. And I do hope it succeeds.
