Someone please tell me about google checkout... I just signed up with ecrater... I thought I would give them a trial run with a few items and I am trying to set up a google checkout account but it's asking me for my SS# and a credit card #... am I safe entering this info??

You're safe giving Google your SS#, bank info, etc. We gave it to them when we were
beta testers in March and so far we've been OK.
Google Checkout Forum -there are both positive (fees) and negative (google, not you, receives your customers' info) aspects of using it

Thanks Amy and FineThings...
I guess my concern is... I am anal (OK who's surprised about that?
) about my business finances and don't like surprise charges showing up on my statements... are they asking me for my CC# to verify my identity or ar they asking so they can charge me for something??
Thanks!!

If I remember correctly, it's just a verification thing where they charge like a $1.00 but then it's never REALLY charged. Did that make sense? LOL I'm working on an ecrater store too and I've been fighting a logo all morning trying to get it right, so I'm not thinking very clearly right now. :blinkie:

Yep, its just a verification. My card has never been charged and I've been signed up w/ them for months. It's similar to the AdWords verification. They authorize a charge but let it expire so it never actually posts to your account.

Why, do I keep thinking this was Karen? Sorry, about that. I do specifically recall Karen jumping in on this thread and talking about this comment as an "opportunity" to fill a need, blah, blah. So, WHO ACTUALLY SAID THIS? Does anybody know?
I totally agree with Rsmythe about using an auction venue as a marketing and acquisition tool, I just haven't figured out yet how to do it and which venues would be the best, since I'm too retaded to set up my own stand-alone site, nor have the time, patience and finances.Â

Canadian something or other (can't remember the whole name at the moment) was the poster who wrote that if I remember correctly.
