Founder says he won't sell Craigslist, even if it's worth as much as MySpace.

(doesn't selling some to eBay = selling out? Or is that gray area selling out?)

He didn't sell the 25% to eBay.  A minority shareholder went behind his back and sold their 25% stake to eBay--Craig found out about the sale to eBay after the fact.  Rumors are that he wasn't pleased.  Craigslist is one of the very few ethical companies around...and eBay is...well eBay Smile

Ah hah!!! Good news, then! I've always liked Craigslist.

Since when is Craigslist a social networking site?  Big Grin

Quote:The founder of craigslist, the free social-networking and classifieds Web site, said on Thursday he is not interested in selling out, just hours after MySpace.com was valued at $15 billion.

"Who needs the money? We don't really care," Craig Newmark said in an interview at the Picnic '06 Cross Media Week conference in Amsterdam.

"If you're living comfortably, what's the point of having more?" Newmark said.

Word in red is mine.
Hey--yeah? I must've been out of it. Since when is it a social networking place first, classified ads second??

I've used it to find apartments, random objects, and even employment & freelance work.

Never used it to chat anyone up.

Excellent observation. Ebay sellers pay to chat, in essence. Their fees are kinda like entry fees to participate in the forums. Why would people on CL want to chat with each? It's strictly business, and a great business model. If they want to chat, they can go to a place like TT.

Wal-Mart was founded on that same theory.  Too bad Sam Walton passed and his sons turned the company into an unethical piece of poop.

It is cheaper then therapy... or is it?
