Pretty Phallic Green Gourds Chinese Brush Painting

Title: Green Gourds
Original Chinese brush painting by me, Ren Adams

This painting was done using traditional Chinese brush techniques, on soft, fragile white rice paper. The rice paper has then been wet mounted onto a strong, sturdy piece of bright white paper for strong colors and long life.

Three plump, shiny green gourds begin to ripen as summer draws to an end. They're kinda phallic (hee hee) and they dangle from a healthy, layered vine with fat leaves.

Painting is signed with my artist name chop (square); An Rui Ning, and my mood seal "The Way to the Tao is not difficult"

Size: 14" x 8 1/2"

Double mounted, unframed. Let me know if you need framing services. I work with an awesome framer.

Museum Magnets by Ren Adams
Start your mini museum!
These magnets are high quality photographic prints of my original artwork and designs. Each photo is mounted on acid-free black mat board using archival adhesives.

The back is titled and signed and mounted with a magnet so you can put your mini gallery anywhere.

Magnets are ACEO sized (wallet photo size): 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" with tiny variations in size.

They are individually gift packaged for immediate gift giving (pre-bagged in plastic with a cute top tag).
The "Divine" magnet is in the upper left corner of the first photo. It is a photographic print of my original Divine portrait, which was done in oil pastels. Divine is a cult film legend, whose film credits span many of John Waters' brilliant creations.

Original Mixed Media Art by Ren Adams (that's me!).

Title: Burning Planets
Media: Marker, pen & ink, and acrylic paint on unique, funky paper (elementary school lined writing paper).

A host of bizarre alien planets float in a distant galaxy. Their surfaces are red hot and ripe with flame and heat. Space winds curl between them as they spin in eternal orbits, watching the universe.

Signed.

Size: 10 1/2" x 7 1/4"

I really enjoy painting on atypical surfaces. The smooth, flexible elementary school paper has a great feel and offers an unexpected sense of geometry to the painting. Painting is sealed with fixative. Sold unmounted (please let me know if you need the art mounted or framed).

Strength Bamboo Grove on the Rocks Original Brush Painting

Title: Strength
Media: Traditional Chinese brush painting with liquid inks, on white unryu (cloud dragon) paper
Double mounted (wet technique), unframed
Size: 12"; x 12"

This is an original brush painting. A cluster of wild bamboo grows out of a rocky patch. The rocks and sturdy bamboo are strong against the elements (and whatever life throws at them).

This is a fine line brush painting which uses traditional Chinese techniques and colors, to capture the essence of the bamboo and not just what it "looks" like. I used a simple white background, which is the way of Taoist paintings.

The cloud dragon paper has nice white mulberry fibers in it for added interest and texture. I have signed this painting with my name chop (the square stamp) and with my mood chop (The Way to the Tao is not Difficult).

This is an original work, not a print or lithograph. Please contact me if you need help getting this piece matted or framed, otherwise I've left it unmounted so that you can choose your preferred way of display.

Let this painting remind you to be tough and tall, even in the worst storm!

About Chinese Brush Painting
---------------------------
Chinese brush painting is thought to be one of the oldest of all arts in China. Similar to Sumi (Japanese brush painting), it requires the artist to be in a calm, focused state of mind. You must be ready to be precise--yet fluid. Controlled, yet wildly open.

It attempts to capture the spirit or personality of an item, rather than just emulating what it looks like.

The neatest thing about brush painting (and possibly the hardest thing) is that each stroke counts only once. You can't go back and forth with the brush to correct mistakes or to lay down heavy color. You make each stroke only once, so that with a series of single strokes, you create a finished work.

All paintings are shipped flat.

Original oil pastel painting by Ren Adams (that's me!).

Title: Magenta on Mars
9" x 12"
Matted (Mat is 11 x 14), black archival board.
It will easily slip into a frame that can hold an 11 x 14 piece.

The sun looks strange setting on the distant plains of Mars. This odd landscape is ripe with rich, alien colors and lush, layered pastels. Stark cliffs jut out as shadow deepens. The sky is a hazy orange-white; very toxic--yet oddly beautiful.

Done in oil pastels on white archival paper. This is the ORIGINAL piece, not a print-out, copy, or lithograph.

Artwork has been nicely matted with a black 11 x 14 mat and archival backer board.

ACEO Sea Monster Fantasy Watercolor Paitning on Yupo Paper Original
  Â

Title: Sea Monster
ACEO Art Card Original
Media: Watercolor and pen & ink on Yupo paper.
Size: 3 1/2" x 2 1/2"
One of a kind. Packed in a rigid, archival quality card shell.

by Ren Adams--that's me!
Back is signed, titled, and dated.

An abstract sea monster leaps from the swirling waters before splashing back in for the dive.

I dig Yupo paper. If you're not already a fan, Yupo is a special type of polypropylene sheet which has a velvety finish and a supple, yet strong feel. It doesn't feel quite like any paper you've ever touched (it's satiny and oddly thick).

I used traditional European watercolors on my Yupo ACEO cards, in a figurative style. I worked with color and flow, letting the brush and Yupo dictate the organic nature of each line.

ACEO stands for "Art card editions and originals," a special type of collectible art trading card. Artists create small format originals, which makes collecting a wide range of work totally possible and affordable. This is an ORIGINAL work, not a print.

A radiant, chubby goddess holds the energy of the world above her head. She's all that is powerful, silent, strong, and full of miracles. She's the Goddess energy--the female core of the Earth.

Done in layered, lush oil pastels in a figurative style. I love working loose like this. I just let the primitive feel take over.

Breaths of Fire Meditation Original Painting

Title: Breaths of Fire
Date: June 11th, 2007
Media: Acrylic on Found Canvas (school writing paper)
Size: 7 1/4" x 5 1/2" (14 1/2 x 19 cm)

In Qi Gong meditation, one exercise is called the Breath of Fire. A Taoist master might ask his or her students to do 100 breaths of fire. Sometimes 1,000. They are short, fast exhales which make you feel lightheaded--yet exuberant. You draw in energy quickly, and spread it back out like hot, glowing embers on a strong wind.

Breaths of Fire captures a meditating human being, sitting on a soft zafu pillow. He or she radiates fire, warmth, life, and exhaled energy.

Done in acrylics on a found canvas (a piece of elementary school lined paper used for teaching writing). I like painting on atypical material. The fact that this paper is used to teach children how to write also infuses with the teaching of meditation.
