RegisterFly SSL Certificates for $9.99
RegisterFly now has SSL certificates for $9.99

If you use Google Checkout I'd check the Google Checkout support site for compatibility before buying.  Google Checkout has problems with many SSL certificates.

List of other low cost SSL certificates:

ev1servers.net
Rapid SSL $14.95 (compared to $69 direct from RapidSSL)
http://www.ev1servers.net/Dedicated/SSL/RapidSSL.aspx
GeoTrust Quick SSL $49 (compared to  $189 direct from GeoTrust)
http://www.ev1servers.net/Dedicated/SSL/QuickSSL.aspx
GeoTrust Quick SSL Premium $94  (compared to $249 direct from GeoTrust)
http://www.ev1servers.net/Dedicated/SSL/...emium.aspx

RegisterFly.com
FlySSL $9.99
FlySSL w/site seal $23.98
GeoTrust Quick SSL $59.99
GeoTrust Quick SSL Premium $99.99

http://www.registerfly.com/ssl/

GoDaddy.com
Turbo SSL $19.99
High-Assurance SSL $89.99

Re: List of SSL Security Certificate Providers
HELP!

If I just wanted an SSL to accept orders, which would be best?  In other words, all these "basic" vs. "turbo" vs. "enterprise" - what does one need to just sell online??

The difference in price is significant, what is the difference in protection, or encryption, or whatever?

None - a $15 RapidSSL has the same encryption level as a $995 Verisign SSL.

The only difference between SSLs is the identity verification required when purchasing the SSL, and your customer's perception of the trustworthiness of the seal brand they see on your site.

So, as long as the browser isn't returning security alerts then the customer really will never know or care the difference.  The average customer.

Great info, thank you for it.

regic Wrote:If you use Google Checkout I'd check the Google Checkout support site for compatibility before buying.  Google Checkout has problems with many SSL certificates.

From their support docs:

Quote: Our production server always verifies your SSL certificate before communicating with your server. Therefore, you cannot use a self-signed or trial SSL certificate for your HTTPS connection to Google in the production environment. If you do, our server will not initiate any data communication with your server, and your server won't receive any response messages.

I found this on their forums from one of the developers:

Quote:Google Checkout accepts an SSL Certificate from any of the trusted
Certificate Authorities listed in the Java Trusted Certificate Store.
If you are currently developing in sandbox and not seeing callbacks to
your HTTPS callback URL we suggest using HTTP in the callback URL until
you begin integrating into production.

Any of the following trusted SSL certificates are accepted in the
Google Checkout production environment:

    * Baltimore Codesigning CA
    * Baltimore Cybertrust CA
    * Entrust 2048 CA
    * Entrust Client CA
    * Entrust Global Client CA
    * Entrust GSSL CA
    * Entrust SSL CA
    * Equifax Secure eBusiness CA1
    * Equifax Secure eBusiness CA2
    * Equifax Secure Global eBusiness CA1
    * Geotrust Global CA
    * Godaddy Class 2 CA
    * GTE Cybertrust 5 CA
    * GTE Cybertrust CA
    * GTE Cybertrust Global CA
    * Starfield Class 2 CA
    * Thawte Personal Basic CA
    * Thawte Personal Freemail CA
    * Thawte Personal Premium CA
    * Thawte Premium Server CA
    * Thawte Server CA
    * ValiCert Class 2 CA
    * VeriSign Class 1 CA
    * VeriSign Class 1 G2 CA
    * VeriSign Class 1 G3 CA
    * VeriSign Class 2 CA
    * VeriSign Class 2 G3 CA
    * VeriSign Class 3 CA
    * VeriSign Class 3 G2 CA
    * VeriSign Class 3 G3 CA
    * VeriSign Server CA

I did find this on their Merchant forums about GoDaddy though:

Quote:google rejects godaddy certs.  i just blew $20 on one.  as of today,
they seem to not be sure what the answer to this is if you look at the
histor yof their replies.  last reply i saw from a dev was sep 29, "is
it ok now?", and the answer was "no"

SSL certificates are only required for Level 2 integration with Google via the API.  If you're using Google Checkout buttons you don't need SSL to process the transaction.
