Today's Update:  May 31, 2008

The Planet Houston Data Center Goes Up in a Puff of Smoke!    Sad

Tonight at 5:45 pm in Houston, Texas, a transformer in The Planet H1 datacenter caught fire. The fire department required them to take down all generators.

So... USiFF.com is offline at this time....  They are telling us that everything and everyone is "OK"...

When I get an update I will pass it along....

Take Care,
Rene

3,000 Servers At ThePlanet Still Without Power After Fire Damages Data Center
UFIFF is back, Entrecard isn't.  Entrecard must be one of the 3,000 servers on the 1st floor.

Quote:While no customer servers have been damaged or lost, we have new information that damage to our H1 data center is worse than initially expected. Three walls of the electrical equipment room on the first floor blew several feet from their original position, and the underground cabling that powers the first floor of H1 was destroyed.

There is some good news, however. We have found a way to get power to Phase 2 (upstairs, second floor) of the data center and to restore network connectivity. We will be powering up the air conditioning system and other necessary equipment within the next few hours. Once these systems are tested, we will begin bringing the 6,000 servers online. It will take four to five hours to get them all running.

We have brought in additional support from Dallas to have more hands and eyes on site to help with any servers that may experience problems. The call center has also brought in double staff to handle the increase in tickets we're expecting. Hopefully by sunrise tomorrow Phase 2 will be well on its way to full production.

Let me next address Phase 1 (first floor) of the data center and the affected 3,000 servers. The news is not as good, and we were not as lucky. The damage there was far more extensive, and we have a bigger challenge that will require a two-step process. For the first step, we have designed a temporary method that we believe will bring power back to those servers sometime tomorrow evening, but the solution will be temporary. We will use a generator to supply power through next weekend when the necessary gear will be delivered to permanently restore normal utility power and our battery backup system. During the upcoming week, we will be working with those customers to resolve issues.

They're on the second floor, and they're back online now, but VERY slow. Graham and  Phirate appear to be hiding, lol. Lots of refunds to work out. :blinkie:  Coincidentally, they were in conferences with venture cap guys all last week, and made a deal to take on a partner.....still no announcement as to who that is, although Graham is egging on the guessing games.  Laughing7

Quote:We have been around since 2005 and we are currently ranked #2 on Yahoo with the Keywords of Alternative Online Auctions

I'd be willing to bet BBH or Maggie's life that none of my 50,000 or so orders over the past decade on Ebay, my website, Amazon, Overstock, Ubid have occurred as a result of my buyers doing a Yahoo search on the keywords "Alternative Online Auctions"
[/quote]

Hello again,

Well, we changed our plan to key in on these keywords, "Online Auctions" and USiFF Online Auctions is now ranked within the top 25 on Google.  We reached number 4 last week, but have since dropped down to number 23 in Google and Number 23 on Yahoo.  I guess they really are teaming up together....

We had a few great months with our sponsored sale items.
With Shareasale, we sold $1420.63 in June and $5421.27 in July and with Clixgalore we sold another $3819.23.

Now, our auction sales have been slow.  Our slowest month this year.  But, it's the middle of summer and gas prices have taken a toll on us all.

Here are our numbers:

Total Auction Listings: 127632 Live
Total Members:  4490
Last Auction Sale: Jun-28-08 091301 PM PDT - A long time ago... Sad  Now, with our sponsored items, we get a sale or two per day...

Well, it's time to get back to work..

Take Care all,

Rene Holliday

Re: Have you tried USiFF.com?
I like the appearance of the new item page BUT all of the information should be visible on the page when it first loads without requiring additional clicks.  Many buyers won't know that they have to click on description/payment methods/images/etc to see the details.--they'll look at those sections and think they were left blank.
