We're very excited to announce the Seventh Annual Independent Online Sellers’ Conference!

ImageFor the past seven years, independent online sellers have come together in Seattle to express ideas and opinions to the Amazon decision-makers and to establish relationships between and share information with other sellers. Amazon has been extremely generous about coming out to share information on their activities over the past years, so we can see what they have been doing to make Amazon.com a safe, robust and highly visible platform for third party buyers and sellers.

We'd like to invite you, the independent seller, to attend the 7th annual Sellers’ Conference July 18th through 21st 2008, at the Seattle Airport Marriott, which is less than a mile from SeaTac International Airport...

A roundup of Amazon's annual conference:

# Amazon wants to be in every category you can imagine, but it takes time to roll these categories out. My note to eBay sellers, who feel they don't have a place on Amazon at this time - they are working on it and your time will come.
# They envision some categories that are strictly 3rd Party sellers where Amazon doesn't have a retail presence, this will happen more in international markets but is something they are considering.
# They hope to facilitate the list once-to-all listing strategy at some point in the future. Basically if you are in the US and list your items as being available internationally then they will be available on those international sites. This functionality is not available now, but they are looking at how best to implement...

Seller Q&A

    * Can we have a single seller account for all countries we want to sell in? There are plans to combine a single seller account for all Amazon Marketplaces. Not today, but recognize the pain since all sellers want to sell everywhere
    * When are we going to have Sales Tax in Amazon? Sales Taxes is a big pain. Today no real solution but Amazon is looking at it (”we’re in the same boat”)
    * When are sellers going to be able to sell to China and India? Actively looking right now at China and India. India is “great for book sellers”. Looking at it very actively (”Next year we will talk about selling strategies on Amazon India”). Possibly more countries coming online soon. Anticipating categories that are 3P only. Some categories will be retail-only...

# Marketplace Performance Management is focused on the Order Defect Rate (ODR). All orders with a claim, service chargeback or negative feedback (for orders in past 90 days lagged by 30 days) are compared to all orders fulfilled by the seller.
# Statistics show that about 95% of sellers fall into the 0-5% ODR bracket with 90% of those at 1% or less. Over 90% of orders are fulfilled by sellers with ODR of less then 5%.
# The challenge is always how do you set this threshold to set a high bar for seller quality.
# Break down ODRs by category, slice the data in many different ways. Seller Dashboard, for media sellers, will be enhanced in August to match stats now available in Seller Central...
