Rinky Dink YourHighBid with 555 members further dilutes the auction market
Quote:Bonnie and I have started a new venue for sellers. www.amboauctions.com A few points of interest... 1. "It's a new auctions site, with a different script than YHB. It uses Rscript." PHPProBid is $200, but Rscript is $100, making it the rinky dink auction site script king. 2. What seller would really want to "cross promote between the two sites" when compete.com shows the flagship site YHB gets just 50 visitors per member every month? 3. "This gives you just that much more exposure!!" 4. How is it only released to YHB members if it is posted in the public section of the forum? It's amazing how auction site owners feel the need to expand something that isn't even successful.

YHB isn't the only 2 script site
OvernightAuctions is running an RScript site at overnightauctions.com (20 stores) and a phpProBid site at overnightauctions.net (17 stores) Milbid has been running 2 phpprobid scripts for the past 1-2 months at milbid.com (357 members, 1400 listings) and beta.milbid.com (71 members, 4600 listings) YHB, Overnight Auctions, and Milbid all have monthly GMV's below $1000. |

Quote:2. What seller would really want to "cross promote between the two sites" when compete.com shows the flagship site YHB gets just 50 visitors per member every month? Compete shows that Zen #3 (7,750 uniques) in my signature receives almost as many visitors as the combined visitor count of YHB (3167), Milbid (2557), and Overnight Auctions (.com-1627 .net-1800). PSU chart favorites AuctionQuests, HiBidder, Wensy, and UBidRight also receive fewer uniques than my tiny Zen Cart. For some perspective on just how small those "rinky dink" auction sites are (and how unlikely they are to ever be noticed by the average buyer) - my "small" consumer electronics competitors like BeachAudio and Keenzo receive 100-140,000 monthly uniques each (compare that to OnlineAuction.com's 55K), my mid-size competitors like J&R, B&H, Buy receive 800K-2 million, and then there's Amazon at 55 million. There are dozens of individual webstores in every category from apparel to video games (in many categories hundreds of stores) that receive more traffic (and have more SKUs for sale) than the tiny general auction sites that are promoted on OAI forums and listed on PSU's listing count chart. If you want your listings to be hidden from buyers, join a rinky dink - if you want to have a chance of succeeding, skip the rinky dinks and open your own web store. |

Re: Rinky Dink YourHighBid with 555 members further dilutes the auction market
AmBo Auctions will be closing its doors on May 1st. The owners attempted to auction it off for $600 but found nobody is willing to pay that amount for a script which sells for $99.
The Auction: Quote:***AmBoAuctions - Site For Sale*** Date: 3/29/2009 Time:5:56:43 PM EST "The Sell Includes" "it took off faster than we expected" -the 7 month old site has 89 members, 2,123 listings, and averages 660 global visitors (Quantcast)/2,280 visitors (Compete) per month. The farewell forum post: Quote:UPDATE] AMBO- PLEASE READ! [color=rgb(113, 4, 19)] As you may know, we have made the decision to sell AmBoAuctions. We have not received any offers to purchase the site, so we will be closing AmBo's doors on May 1, 2009. This was not a decision that we made lightly and are just as sad as we know our members are.[color=rgb(113, 4, 19)] http://www.amboauctions.com/forums/showt...3#post7363 A special offer for AmBo's 89 members from Snagashop - a site which is badly in need of a REAL web designer. Quote:It's sad when an auction site closes down when it's unsuccessful. It's amazing when an auction site closes down because it's too successful! and as a member you're told what's going to happen BEFORE it happens and offered 2 extremely viable alternatives.http://www.powersellersunite.com/post-24...tml#249488 408 sales (2 a day) 2100 listings, 89 members. 2 sales a day isn't bad for a single hobby seller, but it actually breaks down to 2 sales a month for each of the 32 sellers. That's officially the new rinky dink auction site standard for "too successful."

Re: Rinky Dink YourHighBid with 555 members further dilutes the auction market
They should just use the Mark method...
Close the site for 2 weeks, and if less than 25 members post about it on PSU in 2 weeks don't bother reopening.

Re: Rinky Dink YourHighBid with 555 members further dilutes the auction market
Another follows the leader.
From their homepage: Bid-Alot.com domain name is FOR SALE. Online since 2003 as a safe and secure auction site. top rated #1 auction site Only $8.00 every quarter for sellers, FREE unlimited listings, $0 Final Value Fees. Free to sign up. Announcement from January, meaning the $15,000 price tag is way too high and he just hasn't gotten it yet. Why would anyone pay $15,000 for a PHPProBid site that has less than 1,000 listings unless it was a scammer wanting to harvest the membership info? He may as well say, "Buy me, Romanian cartel!" http://www.bid-alot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12580 Also, it's quite interesting to read the admin's rants against the past mods and owners of Bid-Alot, even though he only adds into it once a year. http://www.bid-alot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1423
