Thank you for bringing this to the communities attention.
Since this time we have issued 2 further Alpha releases, and work on a Media Gallery extension is in progress. Keep in mind that while EOS itself is rated Alpha, this reflects our own commitment to reaching a higher state of quality before final release than has been the case in past osCommerce based distributions. This distribution is well worth examining - and we would welcome participation in redesign of key systems at http://www.oscommerceuniversity.com/wiki/ David |

You dont need Eos Online Merchant.. its a :turkey2: . I dont think its worth all the hassle. There are plenty of free alternatives around that wont force your to purchase and install other products or services in order to use it. It may be an open source application but its obvious that its a closed community and the developers dont take kindly to anything that questions their ideas - have a look at the thread, specifically page 2 and decide for yourself.

Quote:SSL is not necessary on many sites using an application such as EOS, CRE or osC unless you plan on accepting CC's directly on your site. Many are using other payment gateway's and payment processors [e.g. PayPal] which already have SSL in place. SSL isn't technically necessary if you're using a payment service like PayPal but the increased buyer trust (and resulting increase in sales) that having an SSL produces will more than pay for the $15 (RapidSSL) that an SSL certificate costs. Even if you're using PayPal you should invest in an SSL certificate to reassure your buyers. Quote:You dont need Eos Online Merchant. Agreed. Magento and Zen Cart are free and have more features.

Re: EOS Online Merchant Shopping Cart: Free Open Source osCommerce/CRE Loaded Based
Try telling the guys at Eos that SSL isn't technically necessary. If using PayPal, its overkill as anyone can see that PayPal is using SSL. Like I said in my blog posts, I have no problem with using SSL, but forcing its use is plain unethical for anyone to be doing especially when those who are developing the app are going to profit from the sale of SSL certificates.
