Quote:Proposals for a central database of all mobile phone and internet traffic have been condemned as "Orwellian".

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said the police and security services needed new powers to keep up with technology.

And she promised that the content of conversations would not be stored, just times and dates of messages and calls...

I am seeing fascists everywhere lately, but this is certainly a step towards, as is much of what the US government has done over the past 8 years. Sad

The loss of freedom in the USA is minor compared to what's happened in the UK this decade.  Orwell's Big Brother has become a reality in Britain. Only China, Russia, and Malaysia monitor their citizens more heavily.

Citizens in the black coloured countries on the map enjoy the least privacy: China, Russia, Great Britain, USA, Taiwan, Thailand

Quote:Orwell's Big Brother has become a reality in Britain

In 2006 there were 4.2 million surveillance cameras in the UK - 1 for every 14 people.  There were 500,000 in London alone - New York City by contrast had only 4,500 in 2006.
