30 day listings, no charge  It took under 1 minute to steal the description and photo from one of bargainbloodhound's Yahoo listings and publish it.   :twistedevil:

Re: Google Base Beta Goes Live
A look at Google Base and searching on it:

Quote:Well, Google Base is here. I think the most telling thing about Google Base for me will not be today, tomorrow, or even next month but five or six months from now...

All of this might be fun for the search geek, but I don't see the typical person going through the motions to add bits of content. Just yesterday, noted analyst Safa Rashtchy said of eBay:

While eBay has brought millions into online commerce, it is still too complicated for sellers who balk at the listing process and for buyers who don't want purchase from someone located far away, he adds.

...the question is, will Google Base be any different...

Article details how to add items to Google Base:

Quote:Adding Items

Google Base allows people to list anything they want. Want to create an entry for a recipe item? An event listing? A job posting? A book review? You name it, you can pretty much post it.

Another Google Base article:

Quote: ...Google Base service went live late on Tuesday, allowing people to post any kind of information they want for free and to provide labels to describe it so others can easily find it.

The new beta service allows people to post "all types of online and offline information and images" that will be searchable on Google Base and, depending on their relevance, may be searchable on Google Search, Froogle and Google Local, the company said.

Article discusses Google's future classifieds ambitions:

Quote:Google Aims for the Classified Ads Business

Google is poised to enter the highly competitive classified advertisement business, posing a threat to online and traditional businesses in that field.

One final article on Google's ecommerce ambitions:

Quote: Google heading toward ‘e-commerce 3.0,’ analyst says

Now that it has taken the Internet search market by storm, Google is heading toward capturing the next e-commerce paradigm—using search to buy anything from anyone, anywhere, Safa Rashtchy, senior research analyst at investment firm Piper Jaffray & Co., tells InternetRetailer.com. “Google will be a Craigslist on steroids—a very potent and dangerous challenge to where eBay wants to go,” Rashtchy says.

Re: Google Base Beta Goes Live
Heh, heh, I just put most of my comments about Base in a post about Froogle:
http://community.tuliptools.com/index.ph...339.0.html

hmmm, what didn't I say in that Froogle post:

1.  I think the jury will remain out on Base until Google introduces the Google Automat/AdWords components of it.  As it stands now, Base isn't going to make anyone forget Craigslist or eBay because it is as grrrrrll said " a disorganized Craigslist" at this point.

Its success will depend on how well the Automat features are received by the mass-market (i.e. will they be perceived as easier to use by the average person than eBay).  I do think that the Automat Adwords component will have huge potential, but Base as a stand alone venue to move product  at this point offers far less than Craigslist....or even Google's own Froogle.
