Retail Jobs Face Music as Web Wins

During the 1990s, as factory work went overseas, retail picked up the slack. Between 1992 and 1998, an extra 3 million Americans found jobs in stores, including 50,000 in the Boston area. That has now, at best, stalled. No wonder the jobs picture remains so dismal.
