Buford toy train seller was saved by cyberspace

The flesh-and-blood world of retail crushed Scott Griggs' toy train dreams. The virtual world saved it.

Griggs' title is "chief engineer" of Trainz.com, a model train auction site. He also sells about $2.5 million worth of model trains each year on eBay. The nondescript doors of his brick warehouses in Buford have become the Grand Central Station of toy trains.

Santa's shoppers may prowl toy stores looking for walking robots and video game consoles this Christmas, but no one is bigger in toys on eBay than Griggs. His revenue is greater than anyone else in the toys and hobbies category, according to eBay. He has been the top merchant in the category for about 18 months.
