FREE is a word that is no longer found in the ebay vocabulary
FREE is still very much in eBay's vocabulary: eBay sites with NO LISTING FEES: Singapore, Malaysia, and Philippines (and I'm fairly sure Taiwan and Hong Kong are also free) eBay site with FREE Stores: China

And it's "free" to register. Sorry, couldn't resist because so many new auction sites pop up and that's one of their big marketing pushes - that they are free to register (as if that's special).

Listings jumped from 9.1 million to 16.9 million yesterday...and I'm sure sell through rates for the next week will be down as a result.

That's a typical jump. The big spikes up in Feb/May/Nov were all reduced fee promotions
http://www.medved.net/cgi-bin/cal.exe?ESHYy2005 Listings jumped from 8 million to over 14 during last year's 12/27 10 cent promotion: http://www.medved.net/cgi-bin/cal.exe?ESHYy2004

Actually in this case (as opposed to the Feb and May spikes), this sale just brought the auction numbers up to where they were before the Christmas drop. I don't think that ebay can run free days anymore without causing major meltdowns of ebay and the third party software companies like MW.
I think the Marketworks launch delays during the 2003 FLD were over 12 hours at one point late in the day. I remember we gave up trying to list around 2 pm because of the delays. |
