EBay, PayPal Year's Top Phishing Targets: 62% of All Spoofs
Quote:eBay and its associated PayPal payment service were the two biggest targets of phishers during 2005, a U.K.-based Web performance and anti-phishing firm said this weekend.

Of the more than 41,000 phishing URLs that Netcraft confirmed in 2005, 62 percent targeted eBay and PayPal.

Many were what Netcraft dubbed "insta-spoofs," bogus URLs hosted from free sites or compromised machines, the latter often courtesy of a botnet. "Many of these spoof sites bear identical structures and file titles, suggesting deployment via kits that can be rapidly unpacked on a new machine," Netcraft stated in an online brief.

PayPal users have been most at risk, revealed experts at SophosLabs, which scanned all phishing email messages received in the company's global network of spam traps during 2006. Sophos said 54.3 percent phising emails have been directed to steal information from users of PayPal. Maybe 10 percent of mine (OM, probably more like 5%) are from various banks, credit card companies, etc.

Re: EBay, PayPal Year's Top Phishing Targets: 62% of All Spoofs
My first 3 ecrater *sales* were some kind of phishing.  Not sure what, but not legit.  Also have gotten CapitalOne cc phishers.

Last week, when I listed a few things on the 20cent days, I instantly started getting the pp and ebay spoofs.  When I don't list, I only get the spoofs occasionally.  If there's bidding, my bidders get fake 2nd Chance Offers -- which is the scummiest spoof of them all!!  Sad
