Re: Traffic Rankings
The Alexa rankings since early January have been garbage due to numerous problems on Alexa's end with their servers and data center.  Alexa has stopped data collection for extended periods of time twice during the past month and after one update was forced to roll back to previous backups due to faulty data.

The auction traffic rankings chart won't be updated until Alexa gets its act together.

1/27 message from Alexa

Quote:Just a quick update on our data center move. The machines are in place, powered up and working... kind of. The network configuration is different, some would say better, and it has had some unanticipated consequences.

We started processing the traffic data and some you noticed that we began showing updated data for the 22nd and then the 23rd of January. But it was bad data. Bad, bad data. The reach and pageviews data was non-existent. So we are rolling back to the 21st, rewriting some code and starting again.

A 1/24 update:

Quote:Well, it is cold turkey time for Alexa. No data updates. We made the painful decision to stop updating the data while we picked up the computers and moved them across town into a shiny new colocation facility. The good news is that we are no longer cramped into an underpowered, dark and wet basement. The bad news is that servers sitting the back of a moving van aren't very useful until they are plugged back into the network.

Re: Traffic Rankings
Well, Alexa really pulled a boner April 3rd. Totally skipped March 31 and April 1. And is repeating March 30 readings. April 3 showed B-A down 5 million on the 3 mo change. Not hardly!

I have been recording, even if bad data, thinking even bad data is better then no data at all. Even if bad data, its be fairly consistant bad data. So it wil lbe fun to watch it if it ever corrects itself.

Thanks for the alexa updates and quotes. Sorry I didn't find the post again sooner.

Alexa has been having problems all year.  They seem to have frequent problems accessing the data center where all of our servers are located and so there have been 2-3 day periods where none of our sites will get counted  (if you look on the Alexa ranking graphs for this site you can see when the traffic numbers go to 0).

The Alexa figures aren't the most accurate.  This site's March traffic was up over 30% from December, and yet the Alexa ranking fell from 40K to 65K.

"Well, Jay was so giddy that someone named Jay was involved with this site we posted our first non-eBay listing in 3 years here at Lunarbid (we tried two items at Yahoo once upon a time, they bombed)" -Marie posting in a LunarBid thread at OTWA in 2005 wins the award for 'most moronic reason ever given for choosing a venue"

"thanks twat u must have nothing better 2 do. do u talk to all your members like that. will not be recomending your site.
best way to put it is TULIPTOOLS.COM IS REALLY SHIT. DONT JOIN." -pubescent owner of rinky dink off2auction.com in 2011
