Nikon Stops Production of Film Cameras in Favor of Mostly Digital Lineup
Quote:Nikon on Wednesday said it would stop making most of its film camera products in favor of its digital line. Nikon's digital lineup has become an increasingly successful part of its business over the past seven years. In fact, digital cameras make up more than 95 percent of Nikon's UK business.

As the film camera market shrinks and the popularity of compact digital cameras increases, demand for products that offer advanced features and extra value continues to grow. Nikon said high performance digital SLR cameras are performing well as users shift from film-based SLR cameras or upgrade from compact digital cameras to digital SLR cameras.

Re: Nikon Stops Production of Film Cameras in Favor of Mostly Digital Lineup
I still have my Nikon 35 mm camera I bought back in 1980.  I haven't used it in a few years since I got a digital camera but maybe I should hang on to it as soon I'll be able to sell it on eBay listing it as that ever so popular term "Rare".

Konica Minolta quits photo market
Quote:Japanese photographic equipment maker Konica Minolta has announced plans to withdraw from the camera business.

Konica Minolta said the market had become too competitive, and added it would sell its digital camera business to Japanese electronics giant Sony.

The global photographic market has been undergoing a major upheaval recently, with many key players withdrawing from traditional areas of the industry.
