And raising the fee on those mid level sales simply encourages shipping gouging.
[/quote]

Oops, I just saw that through another post that it was meant for items over $25.  Okay, that's a little better.

We all knew the fees were going to be changed this year and I have to admit, I did expect much worse but this is not so bad.

Maybe they were a little 'concerned' about how everyone would react if they did a huge increase all around from the reaction they got at last year's increase?

I think so--especially since the negative seller sentiment before this fee increase was the worst non-fee related negativity since the introduction of eBay Checkout.
"Well, Jay was so giddy that someone named Jay was involved with this site we posted our first non-eBay listing in 3 years here at Lunarbid (we tried two items at Yahoo once upon a time, they bombed)" -Marie posting in a LunarBid thread at OTWA in 2005 wins the award for 'most moronic reason ever given for choosing a venue"

I'm really surprised they didn't touch the Stores fees but just maybe they learned something from last years reactions.  I think they are still concerned about competion but they would never admit it.  Not to mention the number of sellers since last year that have opened their own website and are doing well with it.

Re: eBay! Raises! Fees! Sellers! Get! Boinked!
Both Nat and BBH are right on spot on those last posts.

There is NO doubt they were concerned about how everyone would react.

So they did what they figured the market (sellers) would bare and
given the current overall negative sediment of the selling community at large
they did just that.

Pretty smart move so as NOT to alienate who is STILL left
trying to make IT with only feebay sales and not diversifying.

But will it work for them?

I think NOT.

These and other areas are all still indicators that ebay is in BIG trouble overall.

They are now rolling the dice and as Iron pointed out
have further cheapened the overall image of the site.

My analysis is that the further attempt by ebay to drive sellers prices
downward in an attempt to "recapture" or "attract" new buyer traffic will not occur.

In fact I thinks as a result, more buyers will go elsewhere not flock to the site
to buy .99 widgets for outrageous shipping charges.

What will happen is and has already been pointed out.

The shipping gouging will increase ten fold further eroding ebay
as a viable place to purchase.
More off site communications to purchase direct will occur.
ebay's bad reputation as SCAM CENTRAL will continue to flourish
and more savvy sellers will continue to build an off ebay presence
and drive traffic to their sites.

These are just a few of the logical steps I think anyone with any business since
at all will have to take in order to find a way to stay afloat and move forward.

If anyone plans on trying to stay and "adjust" with ebay.
Good luck to you. Your going to need IT.

I'm so glad my goals have always been to use ebay and build my BRAND.

Got to stay one step ahead of these folks all the time.  Wink

I'm going to start everything at 1 cent with $99.99 shipping.  No make that $149.99 because Express will cause fewer bids.  Laughing4

Watching eBay implement these changes is going to be like watching a train wreck in slow motion!

I'll disagree with the slow motion bit.  Laughing7

The fees didn't change much, but sellers profit margins will continue to shrink as more and more sellers lower their opening bids to below $1.  So same effect as a fee hike--fewer dollars in sellers pockets.

I split the eBay Express related posts off into a separate eBay Express thread which you can find here: http://community.tuliptools.com/index.ph...247.0.html

Re: eBay! Raises! Fees! Sellers! Get! Boinked! Pompous Jay Gets Another Gift!
Final value fees on auction and fixed price items rise from 2.75% to 3.00%

Afraid I'm  going to have call you on this statement.  Clarification is required here.  That minute increase is only applicable to items selling for >$25.01.

Re: eBay! Raises! Fees! Sellers! Get! Boinked!
No matter how you slice IT.

These new features are just more " chicken bones" thrown out to the
sellers who STILL list exclusively on ebay but keep talking about leaving.

Top management is laughing their a$$es off at the dogs who are grabbing the
little chicken bones and going back into their little dog houses.

Remember chicken bones splinter and many dogs will choke on them.

When they do choke on the bones ebay will make sure
that their is plenty of  Smileykoolaid to wash it down with.

Notice in my analogy. I didn't use or reference "sheep"?  ???
