Auctions Power Yahoo Japan to Stronger Than Expected 3Q Earnings Gains
Quote:Yahoo Japan Corp. said on Monday its quarterly net profit grew 36.7 percent, helped by its online auction and Web advertising businesses, and it forecast even higher results in the current quarter.

The bulk of Yahoo Japan's revenues comes from Web search ads and its online auction service, the country's largest. It also runs an online shopping site and offers fee-based services for consumers and businesses.

Japan's top Internet portal said consolidated net profit for the three months ended December 31 rose to 12.65 billion yen ($109.9 million) from 9.3 billion yen a year ago. That was higher than its expectations of 11.65 billion yen to 12.35 billion yen.
