eBay Australia: Changes Regarding Bank Deposit Express logo
Quote:****** Changes Regarding Bank Deposit Express logo *******

01 February 2006 | 09:35AM EST

As part of eBay.com.au's ongoing efforts to protect consumers shopping online force users to use PayPal we recently released a Safe Payments Policy. The policy prohibits certain payment methods on eBay.com.au, including sending cash in the mail and the use of instant wire money transfer services such as Western Union and MoneyGram.

Encouraging safer payment methods is an ongoing initiative for eBay.com.au, so we'll be making a couple of changes in the coming months.

A survey conducted by Sweeney Research in October 2004 revealed that more than half of Australian Internet users are concerned about their personal or financial details being intercepted while shopping online. To alleviate some of the concerns facing Australians and help encourage safer trading practices, in January 2005 PayPal.com.au* came into the Australian marketplace so that Australians can shop without sharing their personal and financial details.

This week we will be removing the orange "Bank Deposit Express" logo from View Item, Sell Your Item and select Checkout pages. Instead the words "Bank Deposit Express" will appear in its place.

Then, in April 2006 we will change the name of "Bank Deposit Express" to better reflect the actual functionality to "Bank Deposit (seller's bank details will be displayed on checkout)". Ability to use "Bank Deposit Express" will not be reduced in any way. Winning bidders of items listed with the "Bank Deposit Express" option checked will still be provided with the seller's bank details on checkout.

PayPal is not only a safe way to send and receive payments online  :lies2n: , but it is integrated into the eBay.com.au marketplace providing an "express" method for making and receiving payments. You can now nominate your bank account as your primary funding source when using PayPal.

For buyers, paying by PayPal offers an answer to the biggest fear on the internet: the protection of personal and financial data because this information is not disclosed to the seller. For sellers, receiving PayPal payments is fast, eases reconciliation issues and also offers the same protection of their personal and financial data.
Regards,
The eBay Team

eBay Australia Angers Customers With Its Attempt to Funnel More Towards PayPal
Quote:INTERNET auction giant eBay has moved to funnel more of its users through its PayPal online payments subsidiary, angering some customers about the fees they pay to sell items online.

EBay, which already bans wire transfers, has moved to make direct bank deposits less attractive, in the name of "encouraging safer payment methods".

Sales completed using PayPal almost double the commission that eBay receives from a successful auction.

To encourage sellers to promote PayPal as their preferred method of payment, PayPal is using its Safe Payments Policy to reduce the number of users paying by other methods...

Wow... More strong arm illegal activities by ebay.

The only solution is NOT play with them anymore.

Both ebay and PayPals actions are not that of legitimate ethically run
companies but are most akin to underworld criminal organizations. IMO

Re: eBay Australia: Changes Regarding Bank Deposit Express logo
I don't think its illegal for eBay to require sellers use a certain payment form, but I do think the more controls they put on sellers the harder it's going to be for them to maintain their "we're only a venue" claim and escape liability for things that happen on their site.

ps-that Billpoint logo brings back memories of the days when Billpoint was the only safe way to pay and eBay called PayPal unsafe.

"Well, Jay was so giddy that someone named Jay was involved with this site we posted our first non-eBay listing in 3 years here at Lunarbid (we tried two items at Yahoo once upon a time, they bombed)" -Marie posting in a LunarBid thread at OTWA in 2005 wins the award for 'most moronic reason ever given for choosing a venue"

"thanks twat u must have nothing better 2 do. do u talk to all your members like that. will not be recomending your site.
best way to put it is TULIPTOOLS.COM IS REALLY SHIT. DONT JOIN." -pubescent owner of rinky dink off2auction.com in 2011
