HBO using Google Maps to promote new season of The Sopranos

HBO may have unearthed a new branding platform, Google Maps. The Time Warner unit is out promoting the return of “The Sopranos” through a variety of mediums but is likely to be the first advertiser to have paid the search giant to use its map technology for promotional purposes.

HBO plans to go live with a Google Maps mashup that will help viewers track the actions on the Sopranos. There will be markers on the map that correlate to key plot points, and clicking on them will bring up a popup with information on the episode, including video clips
