Personally, I can't imagine a hell worse than spending my days going back and forth quibbling about a price, using ebay's messaging system, fighting glitches, while the clock keeps ticking.

The time you waste dealing with eBay's system has a price attached to it-lower productivity.

and spend god knows how much more time and effort for less money.

I think the eBay boards recommended method is to first price your item higher than you normally would...and then accept less.  Smile

The extra time and effort part is probably the main reason I don't use it, with the less money a close second.  I don't think the people using make an offer, or playing any of the other time consuming games that have become necessary to compete/sell on eBay like listing duration changes, etc, stop to factor in the cost of the time involved to play all of these games.

If I can sell something at a certain price on my web sites, I'm not going to waste time playing games (and lower my price which I would have to because average selling prices in our categories on eBay are below wholesale half the time) just so I can get a lot of sales on eBay...and get a new feedback star.

"Well, Jay was so giddy that someone named Jay was involved with this site we posted our first non-eBay listing in 3 years here at Lunarbid (we tried two items at Yahoo once upon a time, they bombed)" -Marie posting in a LunarBid thread at OTWA in 2005 wins the award for 'most moronic reason ever given for choosing a venue"

"thanks twat u must have nothing better 2 do. do u talk to all your members like that. will not be recomending your site.
best way to put it is TULIPTOOLS.COM IS REALLY SHIT. DONT JOIN." -pubescent owner of rinky dink off2auction.com in 2011

Isn't that why some sell their items for under .99?!  Oh wait... I forgot sellers do that to make their profits in quantity.   Wink

All the games and "features" are just a wastes of time and space. IMO

I also think all these changes all the time,
is the number one reason so many buyers have left.

The fraud problem is at number two I think.
But nonetheless the overall image of ebay's site is
not doubt... not good these days.

In between sips of Kool-Aid at the last eBay Live, eBay's focus group of buyers said they  Love10 Love4 constant changes, slow loading pages, and glitches.  Icon_biggrin

eBay is different from the rest of the Internet, its buyers would never leave it! Since eBay buyers are so loyal,  eBay can completely ignore the following bit of advice Icon_biggrin

Quote:Shoppers quick to ditch sites for poor service

E-tailers be warned, there is only a handful of blindly loyal shoppers out there

Quote:A poll of around 600 online shoppers, conducted by silicon.com, found that the majority of consumers will be buying goods elsewhere after two bad experiences with a retailer.

Re: Best Offer Now Has Counter Offer
Well ebay and it's self absorbed "loyalist" can have IT all.

But somehow I thinks and have even seen that even the biggest
Smileykoolaid heads have and are diversifying.

Maybe we should have all just shut up after all, and never
said a word of what we saw was coming and how it was going to be.

Because it seems every time I log on the net. I see what many of us saw
a long time ago and watch in awe
as it plays out.
