Microsoft Orders Programmers to Rewrite 60% of Windows Vista Code
A possible reason for the delayed launch dates of Windows Vista and Office 12:

Quote:More than half of Microsoft Vista needs re-writing

MICROSOFT appears to be in a state of panic, ordering 60 per cent of its new operating system to be re-written amidst a major shake-up of its troubled Windows division.

The news follows another delay with reports of a staff revolt over the way that management has handled the development of the operating system...

Microsoft is of course denying the report:

Microsoft flatly denied the report. The company is working on security, testing and polish -– "not writing new code," according to a spokesperson, who added: Windows Vista is on track for the November launch of the enterprise version and the January 2007 release of the consumer version. "There aren't any Xbox developers moving over to the Windows Vista team."
