eBay.co.uk Changes Football Tickets policy After Threats of Lawsuit

Quote:***Change to the eBay.co.uk Football Tickets policy***

Due to a recent change in the law in the UK, eBay.co.uk has amended its football tickets policy.

With effect from 10 April 2006, in addition to the current prohibition on listings for tickets to English or Welsh matches, all listings for tickets to football matches occurring anywhere in the world that are part of a tournament or competition organised by FIFA or UEFA are also prohibited.

This prohibition includes the following matches:

World Cup and European Championships matches (including qualifying rounds and the finals)
English Premiership, Football League, Football Conference and League of Wales matches
Champions League, UEFA Cup, Super Cup and Intertoto Cup matches
International matches played in England or Wales (including friendlies)
 Friendlies involving England or Wales

Please note that eBay will remove any items that it becomes aware of that breach this policy with effect from 10 April.

If you are thinking of selling a football ticket, we encourage you to read the full Football Tickets policy before listing your item, available at http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/fo...ckets.html.

In addition you should also review our Contracts and Tickets policy for further information on the resale of tickets, available at http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/contracts.html.

No, not  Sleepy1 because there is a story behind why eBay changed its policy.  They were, and still are, facing legal action over the sale of World Cup tickets on their web sites.

Quote:eBay now face legal action from Fifa

Fifa are set for a legal battle with popular internet auction operator eBay after they failed to halt the sale of unofficial World Cup tickets on their website...

The move was aimed mainly at touts who use the internet to trade and in particular sites such as eBay.

eBay say they have agreed to comply with the change in the legislation and yesterday took down from the site all tickets being sold by customers based in the UK.

However, in a challenge to the new law and to Fifa's demands, they have not stopped the sale of tickets placed on the site by customers based abroad or on their websites registered overseas...

Tickets for Germany still being traded online

World Cup tickets were still available for purchase on the internet auction site eBay yesterday, despite laws that came into force at midnight on Sunday making such sales a criminal offence.

An extension to existing UK statutes has outlawed the unauthorised resale of any World Cup tickets. Under previous legislation it was an offence to resell tickets for matches involving England, however they now extend to all 64 games at this summer's World Cup in Germany...
Quote:A government spokesman said: "EBay's current position is disingenuous; their non-compliance is threatening the integrity of the tournament. The company must act now."...
