Man pleads guilty to 10 counts of eBay fraud, awaits trial on 6 more counts

A Hudson man yesterday pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to selling nonexistent Rolex watches on eBay, though he plans to proceed to a trial on other charges, including a Super Bowl ticket scam, according to court records.

Michael R. Deppe, 21, of 19 Old Stow Road, Hudson, pleaded guilty to 10 of 16 counts in an indictment filed last March charging him with a series of eBay scams. A trial for the remainder of the counts is scheduled for April 24, and he will be sentenced on the 10 counts after the trial is held.

Mr. Deppe’s release was revoked in December because of allegations that he committed another eBay scam while out on bail, this time for allegedly selling nonexistent Corvette Z06s. He also allegedly violated several other conditions of his pretrial release, by failing to keep a job, using a computer and gambling on baseball games...

Update: eBay Super Bowl ticket scam case heads to court

Bill Englehart, a middle-aged headhunter and New York sports fan, said he had his first dealing with Michael Deppe on eBay.

Englehart of Chester, N.Y., bought a helmet signed by New York Jets quarterback Chad Pennington from Deppe and was impressed by the young, knowledgeable and well-spoken sports memorabilia dealer from Hudson.

So when Deppe agreed to show him the ropes of selling on eBay, Englehart told a jury yesterday he thought he had struck gold. But soon after they began a successful business, Deppe was indicted on federal charges...
