Okay, here's a letter, posted on the Stores Board, from ebay.  Any bolding is mine.

From this thread.......

Quote:maggie-the-cat-is-in-repose  (1368 )  View Listings | Report  May-08-06 21:46 PDT  39 of 39

I finally got ebay to respond to my concerns. Took two phone calls, 3 emails reminding them they still hadn't answered my questions and live help. I'm not sure I believe the response but at least it addressed my question. Here it is for what it is worth.
________________________________________
Dear ________

I understand you have some concerns about
eBay that you have emailed us about several times and have not yet been
properly addressed.

I apologize that nobody has addressed your specific questions. The short
answer is that eBay is not doing brownouts, on either a revolving or
rotating basis, or anything of the sort that would prevent your listings
from receiving exposure to potential buyers.

I'm sorry to hear that you're unhappy with the lack of people that are
drawn to search your listings on certain days. Please rest assured that
eBay is not tinkering with the search results, nor are we excluding
anybody's listings from showing up in search in order to draw or drive
attention from one area of the site to another.

I realize it is frustrating for you to see your sales drop. It's a
natural reaction to try to find an answer to this type of situation,
however I can assure you that eBay is not deliberately trying to drive
you out of business. It would serve absolutely no purpose for us to
bankrupt our eBay Store owners. It would be much simpler to just
eliminate the Store format altogether, and this is not our intention.
There are advantages and drawbacks to the various listing formats. One
of the drawbacks of the Store Inventory format is less exposure in
search. However a clear advantage over members listing in regular format
is the very low fees for listing in Store Inventory format.

Over the years, a pattern emerges in buying and selling trends on eBay,
and many sellers have commented over time that the spring is a time when
sales slow down, sometimes to a turtle's pace. eBay spends millions of
dollars in advertising on search engines such as Google to draw
attention to our sellers' listings. There would be no point to do this
if we were in turn purposely sabotaging the search results within the
site.

Thank you for voicing your concerns to us over this situation, but
again, I'd like to let you know that we are doing our best to draw
buyers to eBay listings, and we are in no way, shape, or form trying to
cause financial distress to our sellers.

Regards,

eBay Customer Support

As for my sales, $wise the first week in May was not as bad as April weeks but that was because I had 2 very good sales. The number of buyers however was down and for the third week running I've had no offers and very few inquiries. Traffic is in the toilet.

This statement from the same company that promised in June 2001 when stores opened that Stores would have a shopping cart by the Fall of 2001. Smile

EDIT: the eBay store was averaging 160 daily page views last May with a similar number of items,  160 to 35...

Sorry, I just don't believe their answer.  They may not be purposefully tinkering with *brownouts* nor deliberately boinking up the search, but something sure is different!  And when they have tech problems, they usually don't own up.
Tongue2

Edited to add:  IOW, they're not admitting there is any kind of problem, and it's no-brainer obvious there is.

I have read SEVERAL posts where sellers have copied and pasted titles of a listing into search and their items did NOT show up.

eBay is either fibbing or stoooooopid!!

I'm one of them, Anita.

And not just on the express site.  It is happening on the dot com site as well.

I've cut and pasted the title for a copy of one of my books and a handful of listings show up - none of them mine.

Thanks for your patience,

I made the mistake of going to the Stores Board.  First time in a loooong time.

He gives the term "pollyanna" a WHOLE new meaning.  I couldn't even read his entire first post or I was going to lose my breakfast.

Did more skimming on that thread...
P4S is less thick headed when it comes to eBay!!

"nice post. i did not know ebay bought craigslist. chances they bought it to drive it into the ground."

For the record, eBay only owns 25% of Craigslist.

Yes, Oh Great Clact, I will list, list, list. The time is now. The world and Ebay are changing for the better and we must all get on board.
