Amazon Auctions: The Beginning
Quote:In March of 1999, Amazon.com launched an auction site to compete with eBay...

Amazon Auctions was designed to be a frontal assault on eBay, reproducing everything they had in one fell swoop. Amazon thought its tens of millions of customers would immediately adapt to auctions and small businesses would flock to our site. It was an aggressive move that was foolishly arrogant.

Re: Amazon Auctions: The Beginning
Marketplace and zShops do well because the items are in general search... so to speak.  Auctions aren't advertised at all!  I just happend to stumble upon them about a year or so ago.
I wonder if auctions would do better if people knew they existed... since Amazon has a MUCH better reputation then eBay?
