Here is what I have learned about the Alexa traffic rank recently:

The lower Alexa rank is really just because there are so few sellers compared to December. The flood of sellers from Oct-Dec that came and left overnight drove the rank up, since so many online sellers use the Alexa toolbar. Actually, I know that many of the sellers used the toolbar so they could see daily traffic ranks on WP and other sites. The toolbar is the primary way Alexa tracks a site's activity. Therefore, I really don't place much stock in the Alexa ranking, because I think it was artificially inflated with the extra come-and-go sellers. Sure, it was nice to see the 50-60,000 rank for a while, but it was bound to fall. Using just the Alexa stats available, my breakdown shows that while 70% of the sellers have left but only 40% of the traffic has disappeared. Many of the 70% of sellers that left didn't have much lasting positive impact on the site, just judging from the listing counts and sales. Alexa compared to the sales means most the sellers have been replaced by buyers, and the sellers here are reaping the rewards of waiting.

Now, I see a huge window still for Wagglepop to succeed. The majority of stores that closed this year were either for non-payment, or the sellers may have listed a dozen items expecting immediate sales. Most obviously didn't read these boards, and see that was not the way to make sales on WP. If anyone is looking to increase the traffic here... List EVERYTHING, buy or make more items with the income from your sales to keep new, fresh items for sale, and the traffic and sales will grow. Before long, a solid customer base comes along that will constantly visit your store looking for what you will have next. Add in the occasional new satisfied buyer that comes back for more, and that is how you build a business. There are over 24,000 unique monthly visitors at WP. Out of 24,000 people, there is going to be someone looking for what you have... All that needs to be done is to list it.

As far as what I have learned about Alexa though, until you have several million hits a day, it is very difficult to just use the Alexa rank.
I prefer to use Quantcast, compared to Alexa, for full stats.

This gives a much more detailed explanation of different keywords, possible places visitors enter the site from, etc.

Bolding mine. How can Poppers believe that the "majority" of sellers that left are non-payers? I left. I paid faithfully every 10th of the month, yet I am considered a non-payer? Hello? A lot of posters here left in good standing. Why can't Popper's see thru the smoke screen? I am SO happy I left when I did.....

Patti I don't know why they think this either   .  The majority did not leave for non payment.  Also they were not all sellers who listed only a dozen of items.  Many had hundreds of items listed some thousands.  Look at 2 who recently left Eyes and I want 1 2 they had many many items and were on WP for a long time.  Also I like the way this popper says they obviously did not read the boards again this is not true.  I think it's this popper who did not pay attention to the boards or otherwise they would never make this statement. On a personal note, I thought for sure we would have at least 3,000 Stores and 600,000 listings by now, but maybe the saying about leading a horse to water is true

This newest post is unbelievable. I'll tell you what. If I went to a new site looking for 5 things I wanted and came up with squat I can tell you I wouldn't go back to the site to shop. They had everything - over 900 stores with TONS of items listed. We had people in a lot of categories (except antiques ect.) when the store count was high, and NOTHING was done to promote WP.

If they were honest and followed up on their promises maybe they'd still be inching up to Karen's expectations. I can't ever see the store count growing over 400 at this point, none the less having 3,000 stores....

Regarding the CC1 post... I predict at least 2 "BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME" replies for the kool-aid laden poppers...  I also predict that at least one person will say that this is the reason for not advertising WP... "why advertise empty shelves?" blah, blah, blah... I've seen it all before...

Good Morning All - This is so very true - while I didn't have thousands of listings, I had hundreds and the sales were in the proverbial toidy the entire time I was there!  I paid my bill ON TIME, EVERY TIME.  This crap just makes me wanna
