Wagglepop 2: Deja Vu as Auction Site That Left Sellers Stranded Reopens

We have been handing out flyers about Wagglepop in our town and surrounding towns..

OMG! Did they shave their heads, too? Talk about hitching your wagon to a sinking ship, or having blind faith in someone who can (and has) close their doors on a whim. Sheesh!

Why do people join a cult? Some like others to make choices for them so they join abusive groups. Some like being part of a group that offers purpose in place of their having none. Cults are found in two categories theological and sociological. And they can practice both in some degree.
The key is to get the information to the people before they join, because it’s much harder to convince them to leave after they have joined.

Ray must have a short memory if he's using a button with "buy it now".  I know BBH told him in November 2004 that eBay had trademarked the term for use on auction sites. 

Or, he just forgot to change the button and terminology after porting eBay's pages over to his new system.  Heh.

Frankly, I couldn't care less if these wakkos wanna be a cult. There's freedom of religion in this country. Poppers make the eBay cheerleaders seem sane... well, almost.

Wagglepop has pulled out the sleazy misleading statistics trick as a way to justify not advertising.

To illustrate the trick they're using, here are the Alexa stats for a couple of our sites.  Both sites are accessible by more than one domain name

site A (both domains are the same site): tulipsandbears.co.uk 29,100 tulipsandbears.com 375,000
site B (both domains are the same site):  tuliptools.com 74,700 boinktard.com (not in top 5 mill)

If you use the 2nd domain in both of the above examples it would appear that neither site has any traffic.

Wagglepop is using this same trick with stats it is showing its members for eBay Express.  All of the links on the eBay site and on the eBay Express site, and all of the traffic, for eBay Express use the URL www.express.ebay.com.  WP however is showing its members the Alexa figures for the seldom used ebayexpress.com forwarding URL (same site as  www.express.ebay.com but vastly different Alexa numbers).

WP is nowhere near the eBay Express website in terms of traffic, but by using this flaw in the Alexa system that assigns multiple traffic ranks to the same site if the site has more than one URL pointing to it, WP is misleading its members into falsely thinking WP's traffic is beating eBay Express.

The figures Karen WP is quoting below are for the seldom used ebayexpress.com forwarding URL not for the real URL www.express.ebay.com

According to today's Alexa Traffic Rank (lower is better):

Three Months Average

eBay Express = Rank 27,733
Wagglepop = Rank 48,080

Today

eBay Express = Rank 24,739
Wagglepop = Rank 24,104

Yep, you're reading that correctly.

Today, we have had more traffic (in terms the Alexa formula that weighs traffic, reach, and page views) than eBay Express, and we're not very far behind for the three month average.

From our perspective, while eBay continues to spend *millions* of dollars on conventional advertising for eBay Express (print, TV, radio, etc.), the numbers we've referred to today clearly show that you cannot create demand with advertising; you can only reinforce it.

These statistics show very clearly that solidly crafted business strategies and timetables can compete with deep-pocketed established corporations when it comes to the online buyer's attention and dollars.

For those so inclined to acknowledge the obvious and indisputable, we will assume this will put an end to the occasional calls for immediate and expensive conventional advertising
