RE: Wagglepop 2: Deja Vu as Auction Site That Left Sellers Stranded Reopens
This quote from the DVD Talk forum is from February 2005--shortly after WP1 closed:

Quote:02-24-05, 05:28 PM
"Due to site interference, Wagglepop has been closed. We have destroyed all data and information, and will not be re-opening."

The good news is that it appears Wagglepoop.com will be coming soon and there won't be any confusion between the two sites.
http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/archive/ind...11343.html

EDIT: the .POOP domain owner let the domain registraion expire in January 2006 but re-registered the name on May 18th when WPII re-opened.

SECOND EDIT: there was a second parody domain registered during WP1 but I can't remember the name.  The owner of parody #2 was a rival auction site owner who setup a forum that parodied the WP1 forum.  Parody #2 announced his domain/forum on FAS the day Ray shut down the WP1 forum (which was a $10 per month rented Invision board hosted by Invision--Ray had to have a 3rd party host his forum because he didn't know how to setup his own board Happy001 ).  The Official WP1 rented Invision board forum was open 1-week.  The parody forum was open longer than a week.

RE: Wagglepop 2: Deja Vu as Auction Site That Left Sellers Stranded Reopens
A post by TR regarding his visit to the FAS boards WP thread.

Quote:Any questions that are asked or discussions that are engaged which are not deemed to be fully supportive of Wagglepop are attacked by posters there, and ultimately by Wagglepop itself. Thus, those discussions cannot take place over there. In fact, yesterday, I exchanged several PM messages with Matt, the owner of the board. He does seem like a decent sort, but his expectations are much, much different than what we are accustomed to, either here or on almost every other OAI board... Matt told me in PM: "Please don't get me wrong, you are very welcome to post and participate here at FAS. I am only asking you if a question will turn into an argument (with Ray) please PM him."

So ONLY supportive posts and questions are allowed there. His beach, his waves and all that...

Personally, I have mixed feelings about this whole Wagglepop thing. Users are looking to move off eBay and diversify their businesses. I think anyone who has known me for a while knows that this is something in which I have great interest, and have been very supportive of in the past. My experiences of the past also have led me to the conclusion that taking some of one's eggs out of eBay's basket and putting them into the basket of someone who is less capable of caring for them than even eBay, is counterproductive and leads directly to great harm for the auction users who do that... both to their finances and to their spirit. Wagglepop has allowed, and has even encouraged users to do some things which could lead directly to suspension from eBay. Wagglepop has encouraged an "us vs. them" mentality among it's supporters (users-in-waiting). Wagglepop complains bitterly about all dissent, and seeks to supress discussions which are not supportive. Yet, they do have a great deal of momentum... and it's going to happen... so I have been both in bringing up issues of interest to those who are proceeding with open eyes, and I have attempted to lend a few supportive tidbits of information that might help them achieve greater success in their effort to diversify...

First post, I was attacked by a moderator. OTWA was attacked by the same moderator. I didn't even realize they were a mod at that point!

Second post, I was told to stop posting and start reading.

That was my FIRST POST to that board, and it was replied to by a moderator and the board owner before anyone else. I was attacked and told to shut up.

Only this time it is completely Ray's forum and totally under his control. While on FAS, although he was given far too much control by Matt (IMO), he didn't have it all. Dissenting opinions could still be expressed on FAS and EVERYTHING wasn't open for Ray to delete like it is on his forum.

FAS mods were also members not employees so that made a difference as well, although at least one mod was clearly handpicked by Ray and in his back pocket. She got stabbed in the back by Ray in the end so playing his game can be dangerous.

The present poppers would have been wise to inform themselves about things like this but most seem not to care. Masochists at heart maybe?

Is there any way to know how many of the original poppers followed Ray back to WP2?

I don't think so. But, I will guess very few. I know from being active on the ebay SB at the time he opened WII, that a few of the Poppers from the first go-round did try it. I think that they have now all left.
When it came up on the SB, Bbh and  Amy both gave many warnings and offered info on alternatives. People did not want to listen.

Based on the IDs that I see on the waggleflop forum, I would say damned few. There may a few who are not board posters but I think Ray burned his bridges with most everybody from the first time around.

Yet you bring me great comfort by answering my question. That way I know I am not talking to myself.  :Smile
