ABEBooks calls sellers to verify info. (They require CCs, too, but I can certainly understand why folks would be hesitant to turn over that info to Ray, again.)
We aren't talking about 1000s of sellers here. Certainly Karen could take a few minutes from her day to do this or something similar? Trust but verify. It's a tried and true concept. |

What are the options for verifying sellers? I think he knows that he wouldn't get any credit card numbers given to him this time. Both sites require CC verification but they also require the following before you can list your first item: uBid: business license, trade references, FEIN or SSN, credit check Bidz-about the same as uBid The data center in LA where we have half of our servers co-located even requires photocopies of both the credit card you pay with and your driver's license/passport. |

So where do the sellers of used jeans fit into this scenerio? [/quote] QXL and CQOut Auction site owners fit into the verification puzzle by providing their ownership and contact info on their domain WHOIS records http://community.tuliptools.com/index.ph...2.new.html |

QXL- they snail mail you a verification code (p.o. boxes are not acceptable) and you have to wait to sell until you receive it in the mail and input it on their web site (QXL's system also automatically permanently suspends any user whose feedback hits -1 ). CQOut- their seller program is probably the most stringent. You need to snail mail them an actual utility bill (no copies allowed) along with a few other things I just really don't think that either of these is asking for much, even for an occasional, my kids outgrew their used jeans type sellers. Can you imagine the amount of fraud that eBay could cut out by requiring one of these simple steps? |

Quote: a 100% trust-based community. All we require at sign-up and as a condition of the User Agreement is the word of the registrant that the information used to register is current, true, and correct. It's just amazing that a grown man can put that out into the world arena. That's stuff for the boy scouts and church groups. Unfortunately, it's pitifully laughable. Looks like the stores count at 64/65 is stalled.... |

Wow. The login page really DOES look EXACTLY like eBay. Not even altered. Just plunked down with the words "eBay" changed to "Wagglepop." When I tried to view a thread over there that one of you linked to, I couldn't believe that he'd copied and pasted it. He must have. It's EXACTLY the same.
Amazing.
