The ebay and pp phishing emails are so obvious they're laughable.  Every time I make a sale, I get them from ebay and paypal -- just like clockwork.  When I signed up with ecrater, I got them, too.  Selling on Craig's list, or anywhere else, for that matter, will also spawn phishing emails.  These phishers can somehow zap into cyberspace and harvest these email addresses.  It's a problem everywhere, not just ebay, pp and wp.

Just delete 'em and forget 'em and chill.

And regarding the ebay toolbar?  There's an article on TT here somewhere that says it's the worst of the lot and not to be trusted.  You still have to use your own instinct and knowledge...
I CONCUR. I receive phish emails on a regular basis and can easily spot all of them, although some of them are very sophisticated and look very real and believable to the untrained eye. One of the best ways to spot them is to use a unique (unpublished anywhere) email address and name for your PayPal and eBay financial and personal accounts than you do for other accounts and eBay correspondence. By doing this, you can spot the phish just by looking at which email address the phish was sent to or the name to whom it is addressed. Or sometimes there will be no email address in the "to" field -- also a phish.

I have the eBay toolbar, and don't know if it matters or not, but it doesn't hurt to have it, so I do. I certainly wouldn't trust it -- nor would I trust eBay to identify a phish. eBay often claims emails are phishing when they are not and visa versa. My motto is to NEVER assume ANY email is legit, without first checking it out. That is, if the email is personal correspondence from a site-member, it will be in the site's inbox and can be accessed from there. If the email is a marketing or promo announcement, it will be somewhere advertised in the site itself, e.g. eBay will, from time to time, run contests or will advise of promotions for store owners and power sellers through emails and provide links to participate. If it's real, it will also be advertised on the site itself and can be accessed that way. IN SHORT, there is virtually NO NEED to click on any email link, unless you want to. This won't prevent anybody from receiving phish emails, but will help keep you from being the victim of a phish attempt.

Also REGULARLY change passwords to sensitive sites, like PayPal, other banks, eBay, etc., whether you need to or not, and IMMEDIATELY change if you suspect anything. Whether Ray (or someone close to him) is, or is not, gaining access into a user's IP deliberately and with malice is a subject of conjecture (although he does have a questionable track record on this issue), but considering the crude, rather less sophisticated capabilities of his set-up, I wouldn't be surprised if it would be easy for most anyone to corrupt it who wanted to. You can also protect yourself by being very careful in which sites you access in using a laptop or computer that's hooked to a wireless network (like you'll often find at Starbucks, overseas internet cafes, hotels, etc.). Millions of dollars have been stolen from Ameritrade and eTrade accounts (for example), by users logging into their accounts from a wireless network by someone else capturing sensitive info who's on the network. It's also good to log out of one site that requires you to use a user ID and password before logging into another, no matter where you are. I don't always take my own advice on this, because I'm working on so many things at once, but it is a good idea when practicable.

Thanks for your diligence, TRUTH, and the "heads up." The world is eager to hear what more your investigation uncovers. Since you live so close to Ray, are most certainly on his "hit" list, and maybe use the same provider, it could be that you are more at risk than the rest of us, but that's just a theory.

posted by yyna the day before:

Quote:Unless things change a lot in the next 5 days I am closing my store. I have not had a sale in months. It might be only 10 dollars , but not getting any sells. With the new ad fees it will be the same cost as over there and I did have some luck there. I dont think anybody is selling much anywhere on line ,from what I have been reading , so not sure if I am going back any time soon. My question is ... I have sent Karen several emails in the past and she says she never gets them. How can I close my store if my emails to customer care get lost?

I do have an idea for promotion that I have not heard anybody talking about. If you play pogo (family game site) you get minis. You can put little messages under them. I have on mine ask me about wagglepop.. and a few people did.

And the snarky reply by another popper:

Quote:SmartAds are totally optional. You do NOT have to participate in them, so it's unfair to group them into the cost of your store if you don't want to take advantage of them. Only by signing up for them would you then add them to the costs of selling.

As far as no sales in months, your feedback shows that you've steady sales since August through a couple of weeks ago. Just because you don't sell an item every day, or even one a week or two, doesn't mean that you aren't having sales.

Are you taking advantage of off-line opportunities as well as online? I'm selling more off-line right now than I am online. I'm selling at pet adoption fairs, the local flea market, members of my Bible Study group and other church members, and co-workers simply because I am letting peope know that I have items to sell for my non-profit organization. Print off cards and flyers - pass them out to people within your church, your place of employment, your neighborhood. There's so many ways to let the public know that you have something to sell.

My selling more offline right now will not cause me to close my WP store. It's costing me nothing to list and the ten bucks a month store fee is the certainly the cheapest selling expense I've ever had in my nearly 12 years of online selling.

Selling is truly easy, but not if you don't work at it. It's constantly pushing your name to the forefront. Throwing up a store and not actively working toward the selling part isn't going to get you the first sale. You must work at it every day, every time you think about it, and at every opportunity that comes your way.

As for your email issues, I must admit that Karen gets more mail from me that she's NOT supposed to get. How many times have I inadvertently sent an email to her instead of my buyers or sellers? I can't count the times! (I'm sure she can, though! LOL)

If you are not having sales for a week or two at this time of the year, you are NOT having sales.

Here we go again, the church thing.  Maybe some people sell online because they don't want to sell  Spam4 co-workers, etc. with their wares.  That is like when your kids have to sell shit for school....you know you hate it. Spam4

yyna & all others which plan to close there store!

Do not allow WP to terminate you be sure to close your store yourself even if it means you have to end all items 1 at a time. If you do not do this yourself your listings will be highjacked by WP. Yes when WP terminates a store seller about 25% of the listings remain active. It has happened to me and many others. As I have stated in the wagglefacts I have even sold an item after I was terminated so it can happen to you as well.

It would also be a good idea to log all item #'s that you have active before you end them. You may need these #'s later.

I couldn't agree MORE.  Occasion14 ONe thing I hated about the corporate world was fellow employees pushing their "sideline" businesses, selling their kids' candy or GS cookies at work, or taking up a collection to buy flowers for an employee whose long lost cousin just died, whom I don't know and couldn't give a wombat poo poo about, and then making me feel like some kind of Scrooge or selfish person because I didn't want to "contribute".

I personally feel business is separate from family, neighbor and friend relationships. BUSINESS IS BUSINESS -- period. Which is one reason I've always maintained WP is NOT a business. It's about warm fuzzies, prayers and cyber chit chats over tea and crumpets.

Could this be why any time a real buyer "infiltrates" their site their questions usually go unanswered?  They are labeled as trolls and banned from the site.

Sellers, you are only stabbing yourselves in the back with your cyberknife with this kind of wagglethink.  Why do you think there is so much interest in the waggleboards?  It is because the things that are posted make no business sense.  Read the wagglefact of the day.  The truth is here.  Find another site and quit bowing to KaRay and donating to their charity.

Thank you FineThings4U and that is right you will only find the truth on this TT thread.

who ever posted this on WP.

As far as no sales go this seller had 7 since 8/15/06 add them up just like the vast majority of WP sellers she continues to lose money every month.

Are you taking advantage of off-line opportunities as well as online? Next the cult will require there store sellers to go door to door after sunday mass to solicite trolls only to terminate them later for being nonconstructive for the better good of the cult!

My selling more offline right now will not cause me to close my WP store. It's costing me nothing to list and the ten bucks a month store fee is the certainly the cheapest selling expense I've ever had in my nearly 12 years of online selling.
FACT:
There are several dozen sites that are free no fees at all to list. It is not free to sell on wp you have a monthly store fee. By the way my hosting fees are less than $5.00 a month and I can sell as much as I want on my own website without someone how and what I should sell!

I never did get this mentality:

Quote:It's costing me nothing to list and the ten bucks a month store fee is the certainly the cheapest selling expense I've ever had in my nearly 12 years of online selling.

Don't they understand that if they only sell 1 item per month it has cost them $9.95 for that listing? Way higher than eBay.
