eCrater is very cool.
I advise anyone who is thinking of doing a website to set up an eCrater store. There's no rule saying you can't have an eCrater home AND a website. Some of the ex-WPers were kicking around the idea of a website or another venue, but didn't know where to start. eCrater is FREE. And easy. And indexed on Froogle. You can build one with no investment other than time.

The confusion was cleared up on page 227 of this thread. Post #'s 3403 and 3404 were the clarification posts. I don't want the cheerleaders from PopLand that lurk here pointing fingers and saying we mis-quote them.

Re: Wagglepop 2: Deja Vu as Auction Site That Left Sellers Stranded Reopens
I'm on page I don't know 240 something now, and I want to say a few things.
1) I apologize to all those who I attacked while kool-aiding. 2) the whole WP experience was actually good for me because it taught me a lot about business (mostly the negatives or potential negatives) that I didn't know and I'm now gearing up to having my own website and using venues for what they should be: advertising. I hope others can learn the same. Thank you all for your continued information! |

Princess, I know you weren't the one that said that. I was just clarifying that Karen didn't say it. It is sometimes hard to tell who said what in the quotes when a few of them are bunched together like that.
Unlike over at PopLand, TT members do everything they can to make sure that all the statements that are made are true.

I'm now gearing up to having my own website and using venues for what they should be: advertising.
This article on using eBay (or any venue) as a marketing/customer acquisition tool is required reading. TT member rsmythe, who used to be GlacierBayDVD on Ebay, wrote it. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article...ition.html Quote:sellers need to start looking at eBay as an acquisition tool rather than a destination. The key to this strategy is to open your own webstore/website for your product. EBay stores should not be considered your webstore but a marketing tool just like CORE auctions. Quote:Sellers who sell on eBay need to change their mindset, even sellers who are presently happy with the world of eBay. My suggestion is quit thinking of eBay as your home on the Internet and start thinking of it as a marketing tool. You are not "eBay sellers" you are online sellers who happen to sell on eBay. Quote:you can look at eBay as you would Google Adwords, or Yahoo Paid Search or any other marketing tool. EBay should be considered a sales and marketing expense on your P&L (Profit and Loss Statement) Popper lurkers: substitute the name Wagglepop for eBay in those quotes.
"Well, Jay was so giddy that someone named Jay was involved with this site we posted our first non-eBay listing in 3 years here at Lunarbid (we tried two items at Yahoo once upon a time, they bombed)" -Marie posting in a LunarBid thread at OTWA in 2005 wins the award for 'most moronic reason ever given for choosing a venue"
"thanks twat u must have nothing better 2 do. do u talk to all your members like that. will not be recomending your site. best way to put it is TULIPTOOLS.COM IS REALLY SHIT. DONT JOIN." -pubescent owner of rinky dink off2auction.com in 2011 |

Where did rsmythe go, anyway? Haven't seen him around lately.
Hopefully he's busy making money. Maybe--doing a book on that very subject.
You're safe giving Google your SS#, bank info, etc. We gave it to them when we were beta testers in March and so far we've been OK.
