Re: Wagglepop 2: Deja Vu as Auction Site That Left Sellers Stranded Reopens
After all that I read and saw happen when I was a member in good standing at PopLand and now what I'm reading on this forum and others, not much surprises me anymore concerning WP. I just wish the sellers that have spent countless hours promoting their stores and have complete faith and trust in Ray and his site could see what he is really doing.

Manually updating listings? That should be a HUGE clue that something is not quite right at PopLand. That is just the first of many things I could list, but I won't since they have been posted numerous times here.

Off Topic Folks, but ebay's annual fee increase is posted fyi

Now they go after the core. The fur is gonna fly. I bet that is why Ray "cleaned house" last night. He is getting ready for new tenants.

A very logical conclusion banana!  Just another step towards minnowing out the ma and pa "junk" sellers as they've been called. Within 5 years eBay will be made up of bulk sellers and corporations only.  Munky2

I agree with you. He knew there would be a fee hike and is expecting a new group of disgruntled sellers to come to his site. Let's just hope they do their homework before jumping ship and blindly join his flock.

Interesting because the core only sellers blamed the stores, Ebay wants to grow the core, and now raises the core fees. :blinkie:
I am wondering if they will attach more insertion fee increases in the other sell price ranges besides just the one. They will probably also raise the FP cost again too.

The Store Boards and Seller Central boards will be very interesting.  Whip2

Ray may be in for a big surprise.  So far, the Powerseller's board and the Stores board is taking the news pretty well.  I saw one seller say this may break them, but other than that, most don't appear to be too upset...yet.  :blinkie:
Never argue with an idiot they drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.

If I hadn't left wp already, I would surely leave now since I see only showcase and featured stores can be seen.  Outrageous!  They seem to be taking things away instead of adding new things making it harder and harder for buyers, not to mention sellers, who have been plugging and advertising.  Guess they just want more money by forcing people to pay extra to showcase and feature.  Dazed012

That is a trip. I also think Ray did it so no one could look at all the stores. I think it addresses his paranoia, he is slowly but surely sequestering the sellers, so the "outside jury" cannot report the facts. It also could potentially increase the enrollment in the showcase and featured stores (more money for Ray)

I too was surprised to see the new look of the store page. You can still see all the stores. You have to go to the left side of the page and at the bottom of the category box, click on 'view all stores'.

Edited to remove repeating what others said.

/should actually read other posts before replying. Smile

I do agree its to help increase the showcase and featured stores to help replace the money lost from the store closings.

Re: Wagglepop 2: Deja Vu as Auction Site That Left Sellers Stranded Reopens
From PSU

Quote:I was over at the TT boards recently to see if what they say about the thread being about more than just bashing WP was true. I asked one simple question, If WP is so bad what other sites can you suggest? I hardly got any responses at all. If that thread was supposed to be about helping than why was my question basically ignored? Because they are not interested in anything but their immature banter about WP.

Here are the responses given to this person's question.
Quote: Smileywelcome Brat.

It depends on what you sell.  If you sell handmade items, I hear that etsy is good for many.  If you sell antiques, some people do very well on rubylane.

Smile
Quote: Smileywelcome Bratpack!
A lot of it really depends on what you sell. If you can tell us generally, you may get better replies. There really isn't any one 'magic' place. What works for one person won't necessarily work for another. Browse through the forums here, there's quite a large section with alternative auction sites that can give you an idea of what's going on. Also, visit the PSU threads (http://www.powersellersunite.com), they also have a board dedicated to other sites.

I encourage everyone to start your own site NOW! It takes time to build up a 'presence' and traffic. There are lots of options out there for sites ranging from already set up shopping carts for those who don't know HTML to just hosting plans for those who are able to set up their own site. Ask lots of questions and research, research, research!! There are many helpful threads here at TT and great people willing to lend suggestions and tips.

Best of luck to you!

Quote:The question can't be answered without knowing what you sell, how much you sell, and what country you're based in.
Smiley

The only US/Canada/UK off ebay auction sites where sellers can regularly sell in the $1000s monthly:

Specialized:
Media items: Amazon Marketplace (not auctions) is better than eBay for media
Domain name sales: Afternic and Sedo are both much better than eBay.

General (new items)
uBid: Very good if you qualify as a seller
Overstock: OK sales if you're BuySafe bonded and sell new items.  Low sales if you're not BuySafe bonded or if you sell used items, collectibles, etc.

Yahoo (general), Etsy (handmade), are the next step down in sales from the above but are better than the 100s of auction sites running cheap rscript or phpprobid software.

The average seller on most smaller off eBay auction sites is lucky to get 10 sales per year.  Seller to seller sales and few outside buyers are the norm on most small sites and have been for years (as have a string of site owners like Ray claiming to be the next eBay challenger and making promises they can't deliver).

On the bright side, if you live in New Zealand (TradeMe.co.nz) or China, Poland, Switzerland, and a dozen other Asian and European countries where QXL-owned or Yahoo-owned auction sites are the market leaders you do have viable alternatives to eBay.

And Bratpack's response:
Quote:  Hello Thanks for the replies.  I sell collectable toys, mostly action figures and vintage glass & pottery.  I am not looking to start my own website right now, I do not have the time or energy to start a project like that.  I just want to stop paying so many high fee's to e-bay, looking to bring down that costly invoice.
