Quote:Afterall, press is press. Bingo. Isn't he in Canada? If he is out of the US what could ebay do to shut him down for copy cat stuff? I know this is why out there but you know me. I find it odd that this site just opened up the same time the Supremes handed down the judgment over Mercs. BIN suit. Maybe he is going to make a point that if ebay can steal IT so can he. Maybe Merc is in bed with Ray who knows . Like I said it's way out there... just a thought I had. :

I figured you probably just thought you were seeing it since you were signed into your account . . . and likely didn't want to share all of that with the whole world.
Uh . . . think Ray needs to do a little work on site security. |

That Vital Guy Wrote:and even Yahoo recently stepping in to disagree with Vital on Yahoo not making money from their auctions. Yahoo has actually been raking in the cash since they dropped auction fees last June because they have plastered their Yahoo Search Marketing (Overture) contextual ads all over (and I mean all over) every single listing. Nat Wrote:Browsing over 15,000 categories He has 15,000 categories only because RScript provides their clients with an .sql file containing all 15,000 categories (which are copied from eBay's category structure) Nat Wrote:reformatted? I had a big problem with the reformatted (and "dismantling the servers") BS when he said it last year because he didn't own the server- he was using a cheapo leased dedicated server. If you own the server and are colocating it in a data center you can disassemble the server...if you're leasing a cheapo dedicated server you can't. xppman Wrote:Bingo. Isn't he in Canada? Nope, he's about an hour's drive from me in New York. ======================== My thoughts. A. the usual rant: people would be better off devoting their time to developing their own web sites rather than following the latest cash-strapped boxed software self-proclaimed alternative B. also the usual rant: the OAI is a multi-billion business and unfortunately the only ones with a realistic chance of competing with eBay are the other big boys. If you want an alternative, there are auction sites that have the finances and infrastructure to support the move of a few million listings to their venues. Those auction sites are called Amazon, Yahoo, and Overstock. Wagglepop has neither the finances nor the infrastructure to compete effectively. It's too bad that sellers for years have willingly flocked to sites like Wagglepop while neglecting sites like Amazon, Yahoo, and Overstock that could become an alternative if enough sellers supported them.

"thanks twat u must have nothing better 2 do. do u talk to all your members like that. will not be recomending your site. best way to put it is TULIPTOOLS.COM IS REALLY SHIT. DONT JOIN." -pubescent owner of rinky dink off2auction.com in 2011 |

RE: Wagglepop 2: Deja Vu as Auction Site That Left Sellers Stranded Reopens
It's all very strange. Copied ebay's listing pages, copied the me symbol and wording, using ebay's PayPal, promoting ebay's Skype, copying ebay's original colors (before the purple) .... Very creepy...all from a man who loathed and despised ebay.
It's a non-issue with me. I wouldn't list right now for anything. He's made ALL the same mistakes as last year -- even more, actually. My gut feeling is he's done exactly what he did before. Saw an opening with the insaneness of ebay right now, and started a new auction site using the same bad category tree and the same bad ideas and designs as last year. Something's just plain wrong here. I'm sure we won't have to wait very long to find out what it is............ I sure wish he'd prove me wrong. *in my dreams..........* edit: Ya think that all the ebay copying is done on purpose to cause public action by ebay against him -- that will be splattered all over the internet and world news? Think of all the press and buyers checking out the site, all via free advertising! He might just have a whole nuther auction site waiting in the wings for when the stink starts, and by then he's famous, of course. Hmmm....pretty crafty, I'd say. -- if that's his plan.... Use ebay to get to ebay... Heh... I'd go for that! |
