Chiquita, I can't answer the techie part of it but, IMO, it all boils down to one of two possibilities: Ray is too cheap to do it right. Or Ray is too stupid to do it right.

Quote:There simply is no quick or simple way to expand, which is one of the many reasons we've decided to take the route we have by making this concern part of the larger sitewide evolution in mid-2007. An obvious stall for time. A devious ploy to try to keep poppers' from closing their stores. You'll be seeing more. |

Quote:An obvious stall for time. A devious ploy to try to keep poppers' from closing their stores. He's not too bright. That wouldn't work with me.
Sure didn't work for me. Reality is, I have to make a living, contrary to the "faithful". With maybe $20 or $30 in sales each month for most WP sellers, there's no way in hell they're making a living. I once asked, how they are making a living: have outside jobs? sell somewhere else? live with mon? working as a hobby? Karen stepped in and told me my post was in violation. Besides, it's all BS with the international thing. As I recall, there was no money conversion module or any of that razmataz when eBay started (I've been there 9 years), but I still sold to international buyers. The listings and bidding was all done in the currency of the respective country of the member. If you wanted to find out how much it was in US dollars, you just went into a money exchange site. If there was a transaction, the conversion was done thru PayPal, or whatever money exchange you used. Now, with all the sophisticated software available, (and cheap), I can't believe dealing internationally would be that big of a problem for WP. For whatever reason, it's a stall. My guess is KarenRay's afraid international buyers will be expecting a real, authentic, e-commerce site (not just some cultist, goosestepping self-glorifying, kindergarden site) something WP cannot deliver, and the whole scam would be exposed world-wide. |

Since he could open it up to international sellers, given that rscript has the features, it doesn't cost him anything, so what do you suppose is the reason he wouldn't do it. All he harps on are the NPB, which he obsessed over during WP1 and justified asking for CC verification for new members to prevent them.

I think that the doesn't know how to safeguard against scammers, and just thinks that if he blocks international sales that he will avoid that ball of wax (particularly nigeria, some parts of asia, etc). However, scammers come in all shapes, sizes, and nationalities, so limiting international transactions will not prevent the problems with scammers.
That's an easy one to answer: it's part of his marketing plan. There are a few lists in this thread of rscript features Ray has been holding back on. Every few months he turns on a feature and claims his engineering staff built it from scratch and the Poppers eat it up. The first one he turned on and took credit for was the Froogle feed, and he's done it with several other features (and then there was the 3rd party crap bulk lister he took credit for)
