Wagglepop Trainwreck: nearly 31% of auction site's stores close
Quote:Growth Trends: I feel that the growth has been fantastic for such a new site. There seems to be some confusion about the meaning of the word growth. : Growth: 1. the act or process, or a manner of growing; development; gradual increase. 3. An increase, as in size, number, value, or strength. By definition, Wagglepop isn't growing it's shrinking at a remarkable rate: 1. The number of stores has decreased nearly 31% in the past 3 months - falling from 939 to 642. 2. Wagglepop's traffic peaked in October and has been in a steady decline since. The current daily and weekly Alexa traffic rankings indicate that recently the site has been receiving far less traffic than even this message board (TulipTools) . :blinkie: Alexa daily traffic ranks (for 12/9): eBayExpress.com 15,751 TT 25,208 WP 49,033 Alexa 1-week traffic ranks: eBayExpress.com 21,193 TT 32,551 WP 45,335 By comparison eBay is ranked 14, Amazon.com 20, Craigslist 33, and Overstock 398. The following free venues are ranked significantly above Wagglepop for traffic: Yahoo Auctions, iOffer(offers free stores) 2,538, LiveDeal.com (offers free stores) 7,143 eBid (offers free stores) 11,770, and several other selling venues. Unlike Wagglepop, none of these free sites has experienced a decrease in the number of stores over the past 3 months. Wagglepop growing?...not by any definition of the word. In fact, the only thing associated with the word Wagglepop that is growing is the number of complaints by the site's current and -ex sellers.
"Well, Jay was so giddy that someone named Jay was involved with this site we posted our first non-eBay listing in 3 years here at Lunarbid (we tried two items at Yahoo once upon a time, they bombed)" -Marie posting in a LunarBid thread at OTWA in 2005 wins the award for 'most moronic reason ever given for choosing a venue"
"thanks twat u must have nothing better 2 do. do u talk to all your members like that. will not be recomending your site. best way to put it is TULIPTOOLS.COM IS REALLY SHIT. DONT JOIN." -pubescent owner of rinky dink off2auction.com in 2011 |

Re: Wagglepop 2: Deja Vu as Auction Site That Left Sellers Stranded Reopens
Quote:One very important item: Powerseller had this same discussion taken place on the WP forum, it would have been edited, posts would have been deleted, and very likely a member would have been suspended. This bears REPEATING! Thanks, Chiquita. Thank you for this post. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hey, POWERSELLER! You never answered MY question! If everybody at WP is just making money hand-over-fist, why have 1/3 of the sellers closed shop and split the pop stand? I don't suppose you're going to tell me it's because they were doing so well, they just got too exhausted to handle all the success. Just a guess, but I'm thinking that maybe it's because (news flash) THEY WEREN'T MAKING JACK! To close shop after working your butt off to set it up, work it for months, transfer listings, create announcements, etc., email customers repeatedly, and then undo it all and start all over again on another site is NOT easy and very time-consuming (I know, I was one). I seriously doubt it was a decision made in haste. And we're just talking sellers who have actually CLOSED SHOP. How many others are MAKING JACK, but haven't yet gathered the strength to go "bye-bye" or are still trying to figure where to hang their hats once they leave? Somehow that doesn't fit my definition of "growing." And don't tell me a third of the flock have flown the nest because KaRay was doing you guys a favor by "weeding" out bad apples who don't pay invoices. THAT'S B.S. To my knowledge, not a single former WP seller here was terminated for being delinquent in his/her account at any point. In fact, MOST OF US (me included) received MORE INVOICES AFTER termination, along with threatening, harassing collection letters WHEN NONE OF US OWED WP A DIME. Explain that! There are a few words I would use to describe this practice, but HONEST wouldn't be one of them. And since we're on the subject of delinquencies, did it ever occur to you WHY any of those KaRay deemed unworthy of operating in a "trust-based community", as he/she puts it, may have been delinquent in the first place? BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T MAKING ENOUGH TO COVER THERE MONTHLY FEES! Again, just a guess. Or perhaps they didn't feel what WP was giving them (which was nothing) wasn't worth $10/mo? Again, just a guess. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So, go sell more underwear. I don't know how much money you made all told over the time period you had your WP store open and operational, but I can tell you I wouldn't be dancing in the aisles over $600. My mortgage payment alone is $2000/mo. I don't have the luxury of sitting around waiting and praying for KaRay to lead me down the yellow brick road to e-commerce heaven. I HAVE TO MAKE SERIOUS CASH. If you had to actually LIVE soley on the money you make at WP, you and whomever you care for would be on the street. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oh, and isn't it lovely we're able to have this pleasant discussion? Notice! No bad words, no obscene remarks, just statements and observations -- but you would NEVER IN YOUR WILDEST DREAMS see this post on WP. Unlike WP, open discourse through freedom of speech are permitted on this site. We call it LEARNING. |

I normally don't read this thread very closely(only because I never did either WP1 or WP2).
Today for some reason I felt compelled;consequently, I read the last 5-6 pages and I am so impressed. You guys, the ex-poppers, all ROCK! (Eclectica, you go, girl!) Re: Wagglepop 2: Deja Vu as Auction Site That Left Sellers Stranded Reopens
Why do so many WP stores have less than 50 items? there are even stores with only 1 or 2 items! Tell me that isn't silly! whos going to pay $9.95/mo for one item? And they have to be in good standing accounts, right, or WP would've kicked 'em out already. So what gives?

Miranda,
I have asked that same question myself. The thing that I really don't understand is the showcase store with only 5 items. :o

Re: Wagglepop 2: Deja Vu as Auction Site That Left Sellers Stranded Reopens
It looks like WP is showing signs of the Christmas rush with sells reaching a all time high of 1938 site wide. Which now puts the sell-through rate at an astounding 1.2% bringing much cheering in WP land. Good times are coming for WP.
Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly
