Hey all, Coming out of lurk mode to reply to this...
Just wanted to say the reason behind this thread was to also help other designers on these boards As you see i say terry may be along to help. Hoping she would see this and use it to promote her business. I was creating little siggies not logos and only to drive traffic to my store, or other designers who participated. And at the same time helping new sellers. Anyway I wanted to clear that up for you!
I have a difficult time understanding how giving away logos for free could possibily benefit a graphic designer who does this for a living. Why should I give away the one commodity that earns me a living and keeps the roof over my head? I sincerely admire your kind and generous offer to help sellers who didn't have a siggy make a presence on the board. Once that offer was out there, though, even sellers who might have had a budget for a logo likely wouldn't purchase one, let alone a SECOND one. Why should they? Even if it wasn't exactly what they wanted, most would simply stick with it anyhow because the price was right. Whether it was related to the offer or not, I'm not sure, but I certainly noticed a drop in business from that point forward. Let's turn the tables a bit, and use your toy business as an example... Say somebody comes to you and says, "Once I have the XYZ action figure, my collection will be complete. Oh, but I can't afford to buy it. Wanna just give it to me?" Knowing that once they have that one, they aren't likely to be back for more, would you still give it to them as a means of promoting your business? My guess is no. However, all this said, it was not the reason I left Wagglepop. 'Nuff said. Back to lurkdom... Terry
Hi Terry, "I have a difficult time understanding how giving away logos for free could possibily benefit a graphic designer who does this for a living" By giving the sellers on the boards a free sample of your work they can decide whether or not to buy an actual product from you based on the samples they have seen.It is free advertising for only a few hours of work. Actually i was just making small siggies, standerd size, they distort when you try to use as a logo(i put alot of hours in for free).I do understand some people sell the little siggies, but i was not trying to take away anyones business, as you can see i was hoping other artists would join in and promote with there siggies. With the toy comparison, i think it is a little different for art, more like name brands and styles. We both have totally different styles and wouldnt be creatng the same exact thing no matter what ,as everyones opinions on art are different., and the fact that they are siggies would make it more like : They want an action figure , but i gave them a tiny little free sample figure in hopes they would by the actual action figure. anyone coulda posted there samples and the customers woulda bought the ones they like. I hope these few free Siggies didnt cause you much trouble . actually sorry that you felt that the post wouldnt help to promote your store,i coulda used a hand helping those sellers and i asked for a hand. Please read the thread on wp boards i actually stopped making them after someone asked for a free logo Terry i'm glad i had nothing to do with your leaving wp and hope things work out for you. Merry Xmas.. |

Hmmm, I wonder if Ray saw my earlier post about WP not being in the top 100,000 sites over the last few days.

Re: Wagglepop 2: Deja Vu as Auction Site That Left Sellers Stranded Reopens
Hi all,
Thanks for the warm welcome, and for your very kind words. I am so humbled. I moved my listings for now back to an eBay store. Considering that I haven't listed any auctions or been very active on the boards, I wasn't expecting much for this month, but am pleasantly surprised to find that I've made some sales. Whether that's where I'll stay long-term or not, I haven't decided. That's something I'll ponder more in the new year. webdreg wrote: Quote:By giving the sellers on the boards a free sample of your work they can decide whether or not to buy an actual product from you based on the samples they have seen.It is free advertising for only a few hours of work. Ahhhh, but I already have samples available... it's called my portfolio. Giving it away for free, through a blanket offer, makes absolutely no business sense to me. Yes, there have been times when I have donated a logo or a template to someone who I felt needed a lift or business boost for one reason or another, but I can't afford to do that for everyone. And once you set the precedent of giving it away for free, it's going to be much more difficult trying to persuade someone to actually pay for your services, IMHO. As my Dad (a milkman for many, many years) used to say: "Why pay for the milk when you can get the cow for free?" I haven't been back to the WP boards since I left, so I can't read up on your thread. (I know I could set up a second ID, but I'd rather not.) Again, I don't begrudge you the offer you made... really I don't. It was very generous, and I hope you reap a plentiful reward for your kindness. So, onward and upward, and Merry Christmas to you, too! For anyone who wants to contact me, feel free to send me a PM through the forum. The next few days are going to be hectic, but I'll pop in now and again. Wishing the best of the season to everyone... Terry |

Hi Terry,
You said "onward and upward", had to read that one twice. Anyways, I totally see what you are saying. I was on wp and got a free logo or siggy from that bow woman. (I don't know the difference between a logo & siggie). Never crossed my mind that I was taking away your business. DUH! on my part. I was so new I just thought it was really cool of her to make me one. I had never had one before. I remember trying really hard for this pea brain to make one and couldn't. I said on the boards I'd be contacting you. Before I even got a chance to, one was made for me for free. So like you were talking about, I am one of the ones that didn't contact you. Sorry about that, I know better now. Here, just do it...it'll make me feel better. And YES everyone, I said I didn't know the difference between the 2. Still don't!      |

Quote:Hmmm, I wonder if Ray saw my earlier post about WP not being in the top 100,000 sites over the last few days. WP's fall from the top 100K during the past few days is due to Christmas: our daily yesterday fell to 90K, PSU fell to 33K -and eBay listings are also down. WP's 3 month Alexa rank of 38,552 would be impressive if it was a FORUM (PSU is 19K and TT is 49K) but it's not impressive for an eBay alternative selling venue. iOffer is 2,700, eBid 11,600, Etsy is 3,200, LiveDeal 7,200, and then there are Amazon 20 and Craigslist 33. Over the past week, WP's 1-week Alexa traffic rank (51,460) trails both PSU (21,259) and TT (36,313). |

Re: Wagglepop 2: Deja Vu as Auction Site That Left Sellers Stranded Reopens
Welcome new people!!!
I agree with Terry's comments toward the making of free siggies. The siggies Terry made for WP were not siggies, they were small versions of her logos that were included in the price of the logos. That's why I said as much in a thread about putting us out of business. Congrats on your sales Terry! |

Re: Wagglepop 2: Deja Vu as Auction Site That Left Sellers Stranded Reopens
Good morning, folks!
Hi Terry, You said "onward and upward", had to read that one twice. Anyways, I totally see what you are saying. Still don't!
A logo, when placed in the context for use on an auction site like WP or eBay, usually refers to the full-size version that would be placed into your storefront and show up on all of your store pages. On Wagglepop, the size for that was 300 pixels wide by 90 pixels high. A 'siggy' is a smaller version of a logo which is typically used on discussion boards. Sizes vary, but can be up to about 220 pixels wide by 50 pixels high or so. Please don't think I was offended, or feel that an apology is necessary, because somebody made a logo for you! That's absolutely NOT the case! For many folks, a logo is a luxury they can't afford, or could put the money to better use elsewhere, and the fact that somebody stepped up to help you is great! So put away the hammer, okay? (Want an aspirin for that headache?) Nice to see you too, Platzki/Fab! I have laughed out loud at your (and others) song lyrics scattered throughout this thread. Have a great day, all! Terry |
