Building a Wiki
I've just started looking into this since it seems like it might be a great way to build a content-rich site that relates to your product line.  This one looks really cool, but is expensive:  http://www.jot.com/  This one seems to be open source:  http://www.tiddlywiki.com/  Google has a free “Notebook,” http://www.google.com/googlenotebook/overview.html but it seems a little on the weak side.

My overall thoughts are along the lines of setting up a "Base Station" site, which would have navigation buttons to the other sub-sections of the site which could include a Store created in a "multi-vendor" structure that ends up looking like one big store, a rapid-order form along with that, maybe topic-related forum, and then the Wiki would be the content aspect of the site.

So the overall theory would be that with a given product line (I used coffee previously as an example), it would mean having a better shot at being a recognizable online coffee shop since there would be multiple vendors offering various coffee-related items in the multi-vendor store, there would be a place for coffee people to share their coffee wisdom, and the coffee wiki would build itself up (in theory), and as that would be happening, it would have better chances for the site to appear in searches.  At that point, even if the person initially came to the site to find out how de-calf is made, by default, they'd be brought into an area where the store would be just one click away.

So any thoughts on Wiki's?
