eBay must LOVE fee avoiders and shipping gougers . . .
They certainly make it more profitable.
When the new fees go into effect: An honest seller who lists a light weight widget for $30 in a store with $2 shipping, pays a total of $2.95 if it sells in one month (.10 cents listing fee and $2.85 fvf). A fee avoider who lists the same widget as a penny BIN fixed price listing on the core site, with $32 shipping, pays when it sells: week 1: 20 cents (55 cents with gallery) week 2: 20 cents (relist fee refunded) (90 cents gallery) week 3: 60 cents ($2.25 with gallery) week 4: 60 cents (relist fee refunded) ($2.60 with gallery) So, 4 weeks at the core site with a gallery picture, complete with the advantaged exposure on EE costs less than one month in a store, provided, of course, you are willing to follow this business model. (You could list on the core site for MONTHS using this model without gallery before exceeding the cost to list honestly in a store.) Yeah, eBay . . . that's the way to crack down on shipping gouging. |

Re: eBay must LOVE fee avoiders and shipping gougers . . .
eBay's focus group of buyers told eBay they were more concerned about the proliferation of Fee Hike Protest auctions on the site than they were about shipping gougers. eBay is only doing what the customers asked it to do. :twistedevil:

Re: eBay must LOVE fee avoiders and shipping gougers . . .
My brother just bought DVDs on ebay and complained about the shipping to me. I told him he should have checked before he bid. He said that's what the seller said. But then when I went into the seller's auctions I could see that they were camouflaged and a novice would probably miss it. Also, like in my brother's case, sellers weren't receiving the quantity shipping discounts, which I saw in the neg feedbacks. His answer was always, "Well, he didn't ask OK!"
Another thing, my brother couldn't believe I knew everything about his purchases without knowing his password. I think he thought that I hacked into his account somehow. I told him that anybody can see anyone's buying and selling patterns on ebay simply by searching. He was aghast. :o Personally, I still have a hard time believing that people can live that. Do people really care that little about privacy? |

Quote:Personally, I still have a hard time believing that people can live that. Do people really care that little about privacy? Well Bob, until recently, it simply never occured to me to either look at what someone else had bought, or think that someone would look at my widget purchases. It just would have seemed silly and senseless if I had given it any thought. Alas, I learned my lesson from the perpetual troll, PC4. I now have an id which I will use for widget purchases and nothing else, including posting. Lesson learned, better late than never. Privacy does matter to me. |

Re: eBay must LOVE fee avoiders and shipping gougers . . .
Once I saw the EXACT mortgage papers I signed on the Internet, I gave up (try to anyway) worrying about privacy.
Those papers show our signatures, ssns, what we paid, the amount of money we put down, etc... the EXACT papers we signed and were given copies of. |
