A comparison of the Ubuntu and Debian linux distributions (from a Debian user)

I've used both, one right after the other, and have to say, the overall user experience is the same. The installer in Etch works the same way as it does in Ubuntu, Apt works the same way, even Ubuntu guides usually work fine in Debian.

So what's different? Well, not much. The app selection is slightly different in a default install, and of course Ubuntu has the words "Ubuntu" etched all over the place, but other than that, they are still the same. Ubuntu of course uses its own repositories. That's really it though. You can even take the different app choices in a default install out of the mix if you use apt frequently.

The real difference is if you want to be Joe or if you want to be someone whose name isn’t Joe...
