EBay to discontinue Keywords program in September

At least several eBay Store owners who pay a premium for "Featured" Stores are considering downgrading to Basic Stores after eBay announced it was discontinuing its Keyword advertising program. eBay had given Featured Store owners a credit of $90/quarter to be used toward the program so their ads would appear on relevant eBay search-results pages.

One Store owner wrote to AuctionBytes to say there was confusion about whether eBay Keywords would be replaced by a new program, but that, "Bottom line, if this program isn't replaced with another one, many Featured stores will downgrade to Basic on October 1." Another wrote to say that the primary reason she had chosen a Featured store was the benefit of getting eBay Keywords credits...

eBay will probably just cap the number of items that can be listed in the Basic Stores. Fortunately, the stock analysts seem to be finally appreciating that eBay might really be in a major downward spiral. I mentioned elsewhere that I thought they were pumping the stock and that they would be dumping in a few months, but it appears that we may be on the leading edge of the dump.

Of course, the brokerages are a lot like eBay in that they get their money on both ends on the transaction.

The KW program (90 clams of clicks) was the ONLY thing that warranted the additional cost of a featured store...

So I say, yet again... WAY TO GO, EBAY!!!
