List your items in the Auction and Fixed Price Formats on the eBay US site (http://www.ebay.com) for 20¢ only (Insertion Fee), irrespective of the start price. You may list as many items as you want.

When is it?

The promotion starts 00:00:01 Monday September 18, 2006 IST and ends 23:59:59 Monday September 18, 2006 IST – One Day Only!

Who is eligible?

All members with India as their country of residence (as per the address registered with eBay) as on 00:00:00 Monday, 11 September 2006 (IST) are eligible for the promotion.

What is excluded?

-          Listing in 2 categories is excluded

-          Dutch Auctions (Multiple Quantity Auctions) are excluded

-          eBay Motors vehicles, Live Auction, Professional Services, Ad Format, Real Estate and Store Inventory listings.

-          The following business and industrial categories are excluded from the 20¢ Insertion Fee Sale: tractors & farm machinery (91952), heavy equipment (25249), concession trailers, carts (67145), imaging and aesthetics equipment (92035), forklifts and other lifts (97185), manufacturing equipment (92080), metalworking equipment (92082) and commercial printing presses (26247).

The promotional rate does not apply to listings with a start date prior to 00:00:01 September 18, 2006 (IST) - including those listings revised during the promotional period. The promotional rate also does not apply to listings created during the promotion period and scheduled to start after the promotion ends.

All other fees will apply as usual.

Important

Users whose items qualify will be charged at the time of listing and will be credited for the qualifying items by October 27th. The memo on the qualifying items will read "US 20¢ Listing Day Promotion Credit"

Of course!  It's approaching the end of the 3Q, so they have to boost their auction count numbers and revenue!  Me?  I'll have to pay up to $5 per listing on .com, but some other country's residents  get to pay only 20 cents to list on .com!

Hmmm........I think it has more to do with the  UK boycott, (in which many US sellers are participating) for which the last day is the 18th.

Breaking news: eBay has just figured out how to further antagonize its US sellers at a time when they are already feeling misunderstood and abused. Sellers on eBay India will be able to list items on eBay.com at a special discount tomorrow.

eBay India is holding a 20-cent listing day for its sellers to sell on the US eBay.com site on September 18. To say that I don't think it will be well received by US buyers and sellers is an understatement.

This promotion shows that eBay management is either way out of touch with its members, or just doesn't care. It will likely be interpreted by US sellers as a way to boost listings on eBay.com at the end of the quarter for the benefit of Wall Street analysts.

Blogging Stocks has a short piece on eBay's 20 cent promo:

U.S. sellers are livid over today's eBay Inc.  promotion: a 20-cents listings day but only for Indian sellers and on the U.S. site. Just go to the comments here and here or go to the eBay sellers' forum to see how merchants feel about this.

Some are even suggesting this promotion could be a ploy to boost core listings for the benefit of Wall St. This is one hell of an accusation, and could be one hell of a plan on eBay's management part if it were true...
