The main reasons why consumers prefer to shop on the internet during the holiday season are convenience, product selection and price, according to Majestic Research, an independent research firm serving institutional investors.

The 2005 KPMG holiday shopping behavior study found that consumers choose the type of store where they will shop based on the same three criteria. Contrary to what consultants often say, the KPMG study found that consumers rank customer service as a low priority. However, consumer preferences are not static.
